{"id":1010,"date":"2025-09-11T13:00:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T13:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1010"},"modified":"2025-09-11T13:00:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T13:00:11","slug":"carlos-alcarazs-davis-cup-team-mate-reacts-after-us-open-winner-withdraws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1010","title":{"rendered":"Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s Davis Cup team-mate reacts after US Open winner withdraws"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s Davis Cup team-mate Pedro Martinez has told Tennis365 he \u201ccompletely understands\u201d the US Open winner missing out on their upcoming qualifier, but said he could have made a \u201cbig difference\u201d to their squad.<\/p>\n<p>Having been initially selected to play, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\"><strong>Alcaraz<\/strong><\/a> announced he would miss Spain\u2019s qualifier against Denmark this weekend after a short turnaround from the Grand Slam in New York.<\/p>\n<p>In his absence, a team of Martinez, Jaume Munar, Roberto Carball\u00e9s, Pablo Carre\u00f1o and Marcel Granollers will hope to secure their country\u2019s spot in the finals.<\/p>\n<p>Martinez, speaking exclusively to Tennis365, said they would \u201clove to have him here\u201d but he understood that even players like Alcaraz are not immune to fatigue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCarlos can make a big difference on our team or in any other team. He\u2019s a really special player, but I completely understand,\u201d Martinez said. \u201cHe had amazing success in New York.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe played a lot of matches. He has to change from one surface to the other one for sure. He wants to rest a couple of days before heading to the Laver Cup in San Francisco. He\u2019s going to play again on hard court, so I think it doesn\u2019t make that much sense for him to play a week on clay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he could make the effort, for us it would be perfect, but it\u2019s something that I cannot control. We all would love to have him here, but it\u2019s not possible this time. We all have to be prepared for that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very important, the Davis Cup, even more when we play here in Spain to go through to the finals.
