Novak Djokovic was making all the right noises ahead of his opening match at the Indian Wells ATP Masters tournament, but he didn\u2019t have any of the answers he needed on court as he slumped to a shock defeat against Botic van de Zandschulp.<\/p>\n
The Dutchman who stunned Carlos Alcaraz with a straight sets win at last year\u2019s US Open now has another huge scalp on his record as he beat 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic<\/a> 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.<\/p>\n Van de Zandschulp lost in the second round of qualifying for Indian Wells, but was handed a place in the draw as players dropped out due to injury and he has certainly made the most of his second life in this tournament.<\/p>\n \u201cI kept my cool during the whole match,\u201d said Van de Zandschulp. \u201cThe second set was very tough, but I started really well in the third set and broke him to turn it around.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s tough conditions out here and everything is struggling a bit, but I got through. I\u2019ve been struggling to play on the desired level.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery now and then, I have couple good tournaments, but, you know, mostly it\u2019s really a challenge. It\u2019s a struggle for me. So it is what it is.<\/p>\n \u201cYou know, I guess nothing can prepare you for that moment, in a sense.
