{"id":1299,"date":"2025-11-09T07:45:47","date_gmt":"2025-11-09T07:45:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1299"},"modified":"2025-11-09T07:45:47","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T07:45:47","slug":"why-did-elena-rybakina-snub-wta-ceo-during-photo-shoot-after-winning-wta-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1299","title":{"rendered":"Why did Elena Rybakina snub WTA CEO during photo shoot after winning WTA Finals?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There was an awkward moment during the WTA Finals trophy presentation involving champion Elena Rybakina and WTA CEO Portia Archer, and while the player refused to go into detail, it no doubt stems from the WTA Tour\u2019s decision to suspend the 2022 Wimbledon champion\u2019s coach Stefano Vukov.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/elena-rybakina\">Rybakina<\/a> won her biggest title since her Wimbledon success four years ago as she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/aryna-sabalenka-loses-wta-finals-elena-rybakina\">defeated world No 1 and four-time Grand Slam winner Sabalenka<\/a> in straight sets in the WTA Finals in Riyadh.<\/p>\n<p>Players traditionally take photos with officials during the post-match ceremony and Rybakina had no problem posing alongside Sabalenka in the centre of the court, but when Archer started making her way to the middle, the Kazakh player walked away and stood a few metres away.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old was called over to rejoin the shoot, but she gestured with her hand to indicate they go ahead without her and looked away while photos were being taken.<\/p>\n<p>When asked during the post-match press conference why she didn\u2019t want to pose with Archer, Rybakina told reporters that she wanted \u201cto keep the reason between her and the WTA chief\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>But the tension between the player and officials originates from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/elena-rybakina-stefano-vukov-ban-shocking-details-behaviour-abuse-relationship\">WTA\u2019s handling of her coach Vukov\u2019s suspension<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The Croatian\u2019s coaching methods made headlines at the 2023 Australian Open when he was criticised for the way he talked to Rybakina during her run to the final, but she defended her mentor.<\/p>\n<h2>WTA News<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wta-tour\/elena-rybakina-record-breaking-prize-money-ranking-points-wta-finals-aryna-sabalenka-earning-big\">Elena Rybakina\u2019s record prize money and ranking points from WTA Finals as Aryna Sabalenka also earn big<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wta-tour\/iga-swiatek-interesting-confession-enters-uncharted-waters-wta-finals-exit\">Iga Swiatek makes interesting confession as she enters uncharted waters with WTA Finals exit<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the eve of the 2024 US Open, Rybakina announced that she had ended her working relationship with Vukov and not long after, the WTA announced that he had been provisionally suspended pending an investigation into his conduct.<\/p>\n<p>But Rybakina and Vukov started working together again at the start of 2025 and in February this year, it was announced that the Croatian had been handed a 12-month suspension and Archer was quite critical when the findings was released.<\/p>\n<p>She stated that Vukov\u2019s behaviour was a \u201ccontradiction\u201d to the \u201csafe environment\u201d needed for everyone on the WTA Tour, adding: \u201cIt\u2019s clear to me you have a toxic relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vukov appealed the decision and in August <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/elena-rybakina-stefano-vukov-coach-ban-lifted-wta-tour\">he was cleared to return to action<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But there is certainly bad blood between Rybakina and the top officials on the WTA Tour with the latest incident in Saudi Arabia proving it is not something that will go away any time soon.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Why did <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Rybakina?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Rybakina<\/a> refuse to take a picture with Portia Archer the CEO of WTA ?
