{"id":1346,"date":"2025-11-22T10:30:05","date_gmt":"2025-11-22T10:30:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1346"},"modified":"2025-11-22T10:30:05","modified_gmt":"2025-11-22T10:30:05","slug":"jimmy-connors-reveals-why-carlos-alcaraz-jannik-sinner-could-keep-dominating","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1346","title":{"rendered":"Jimmy Connors reveals why Carlos Alcaraz &amp; Jannik Sinner could \u2018keep dominating\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tennis icon Jimmy Connors has claimed that the dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner is \u201cnot their fault\u201d as he urged other players to \u201cchallenge\u201d them.<\/p>\n<p>World No 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Alcaraz<\/a> and world No 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a> have been comfortably ahead of the rest of the men\u2019s game for a number of months now, with the two sweeping tennis\u2019 biggest titles.<\/p>\n<p>The pair have now won the last eight Grand Slam tournaments between them, beginning from the 2024 Australian Open \u2014 with four major triumphs apiece during that time.<\/p>\n<p>2025 was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/facts-stats\/carlos-alcaraz-5-stats-which-prove-2025-was-best-year-career\">by far and away the best year of Alcaraz\u2019s career<\/a>, with the Spaniard winning the French Open and US Open titles, eight titles in total, and ending the year as the world No 1.<\/p>\n<p>Despite a three-month suspension earlier in the year, Sinner still tasted success at the Australian Open and Wimbledon and won six titles, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/carlos-alcaraz-jannik-sinner-prize-money-atpfinals\">including the ATP Finals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian beat Alcaraz in the year-end championships final in Turin, and the two became the first men in the Open Era to meet in three Grand Slam finals in the same season, facing off at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open.<\/p>\n<p>The gap between the two and the rest of the tour is sizeable, with a staggering 6,340 points between world No 2 Sinner and world No 3 Alexander Zverev in the ATP Rankings.<\/p>\n<p>All eyes are now on whether and when anyone can consistently challenge the pair in the future, with 38-year-old Novak Djokovic \u2014 who finished the year as the world No 4 \u2014 still arguably their closest rival.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/novak-djokovic-retirement-stance-defended-boris-becker-ongoing-rumours\">Novak Djokovic\u2019s retirement stance defended by Boris Becker amid ongoing rumours<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-snubbed-carlos-alcaraz-atp-awards\">Jannik Sinner snubbed as Carlos Alcaraz bags a nomination for prestigious ATP Tour award<\/a><\/p>\n<p>One player who knows all about dominance in the game is US great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jimmy-connors\">Connors<\/a>, who won eight Grand Slam titles and spent a staggering 268 weeks as the world No 1 during his career.<\/p>\n<p>And, speaking on his <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/episode\/4UzCLQNPMp5pOcRymKfqly?go=1&amp;sp_cid=559a6c19b34769f15bd09181a616729a&amp;utm_source=embed_player_p&amp;utm_medium=desktop&amp;nd=1&amp;dlsi=6d4bcd4512ed4ff8\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Advantage Connors<\/em> <\/a>podcast, the tennis legend claimed it was time for someone to step up and challenge the \u2018New Two\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, you need somebody else to step in there and challenge those two,\u201d said Connors. \u201cBut on the other hand, it\u2019s not their fault.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hate to go back and say it, but my one-time manager Bill Reardon always said that when you get to the finals, there are 126 losers, and then you and your opponent. He\u2019s right.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnless somebody steps up and challenges those guys, they\u2019re going to keep dominating.
