{"id":1390,"date":"2025-12-01T16:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1390"},"modified":"2025-12-01T16:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T16:00:00","slug":"andy-murray-reveals-what-he-is-disappointed-about-from-coaching-novak-djokovic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1390","title":{"rendered":"Andy Murray reveals what he is \u2018disappointed\u2019 about from coaching Novak Djokovic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Andy Murray has candidly reflected on the time he spent coaching Novak Djokovic as he described his collaboration with the tennis legend as \u201can amazing experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\">Djokovic<\/a> shocked the tennis world when he announced that he had hired Murray, one of his primary former rivals, as his coach ahead of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n<p>Murray agreed to the role less than three months after he brought down the curtain on his glittering playing career at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.<\/p>\n<h2>Andy Murray speaks openly about coaching Novak Djokovic<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Andy Murray has said Novak Djokovic\u2019s approach to tennis makes him as \u201ca challenging character\u201d in the same way he was during his own career<\/li>\n<li>The Brit assessed that Djokovic was playing \u201cridiculous tennis\u201d at the Australian Open, but added that \u201ca difficult few months\u201d followed the injury the Serb sustained in Melbourne<\/li>\n<li>Murray admitted he was \u201cdisappointed\u201d he could not help Djokovic achieve the results he \u201cwould have liked\u201d, but revealed he is \u201cglad\u201d he took on the role<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Djokovic and Murray\u2019s partnership brought mixed results before they mutually agreed to end it after six months on May 13.<\/p>\n<p>It got off to a hugely positive start as Djokovic reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, delivering a stunning performance to beat Carlos Alcaraz in the last eight.<\/p>\n<p>The other high point was Djokovic reaching the Miami Open final in March, but he also lost his opening matches in Doha, Indian Wells, Monte Carlo and Madrid while working with Murray.<\/p>\n<h2>What did Andy Murray say about working with Novak Djokovic?<\/h2>\n<p>During an appearance on The Tennis Podcast, Murray was asked about \u201cgoing in at the deep end\u201d in his first coaching role.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is [going in at the deep end],\u201d the former world No 1 said. \u201cYou\u2019re obviously working with, he\u2019s not just one of the best tennis players, but one of the best athletes of all time, so my expectation was that it was going to be extremely challenging.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNovak, like myself, is a challenging character in terms of the way he goes about his tennis, it\u2019s extremely demanding. I fully expected that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look back on it and I\u2019m glad that I did it. It\u2019s an amazing experience that I\u2019ve had. I\u2019ve learned a bit. Obviously didn\u2019t last that long. I put everything into it that I had. It was unfortunate what happened in Australia with the injury, and I watched him play \u2014 in that tournament \u2014 ridiculous tennis, in my opinion. I saw him play some amazing tennis there. Speaking to his team about that, it was like, \u2018So, so good. So impressive what he\u2019s doing.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter then the injury, it was certainly a difficult few months for him, but also I think for the team and all of us. So I was disappointed. Probably didn\u2019t get the results I would have liked for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The three-time Grand Slam continued: \u201cBut I learned a lot about what coaching is and because you\u2019re throwing yourself in at the deep end, you find a lot about yourself and some of your strengths and weaknesses as a coach and things that maybe you need to work on yourself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was fully invested, I was sitting there, like at 11 o\u2019clock at night watching videos of his matches over in Australia, editing videos to send to him. I tried my hardest to help.
