{"id":1495,"date":"2025-12-23T14:30:40","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T14:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1495"},"modified":"2025-12-23T14:30:40","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T14:30:40","slug":"danielle-collins-issues-update-on-social-media-after-australian-open-entry-list-absence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1495","title":{"rendered":"Danielle Collins issues \u2018update\u2019 on social media after Australian Open entry list absence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Danielle Collins has opened up about undergoing egg freezing procedures, as the star explained why she would not be in action at the Australian Open next month.<\/p>\n<p>World No 64 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/danielle-collins\">Collins<\/a> is comfortably ranked high enough to compete in the opening Grand Slam tournament of the year, with action underway on January 18 inside Melbourne Park.<\/p>\n<p>The 32-year-old has a strong pedigree at the Australian Open, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/australian-open\/danielle-collins-news-amazing-journey-australian-open-final\">reaching the final back in 2022<\/a> and the semi-final in 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/australian-open\/2026-australian-open-entry-list-aryna-sabalenka-victoria-mboko-alex-eala-janice-tjen-debuts\">though was notably missing from the entry list announcement made earlier this month.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/danielle-collins-releases-heartfelt-statement-rushed-hospital\">Collins called time on what proved to be a challenging 2025 campaign following an opening-round exit at the US Open<\/a>, with many assuming that her upcoming absence would be injury related.<\/p>\n<p>And, while she is dealing with an ongoing back issue, the former world No 7 has also revealed that she is undergoing fertility treatment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wta-tour\/danielle-collins-explain-retirement\">Collins has spoken openly in the past about her endometriosis and the challenges she may have in starting a family<\/a>, while the WTA Tour announced in 2025 that it would offer a protected ranking for players who underwent egg freezing or other fertility treatments.<\/p>\n<p>While it is unknown whether Collins has asked for such a protected ranking or will require one, the American has now confirmed on Instagram that she will be missing the start of 2026 \u2014 partially due to her treatment.<\/p>\n<p>And, while she will not be on court at the Australian Open, she has teased an impending broadcasting role with <em>Tennis Channel<\/em>, one of America\u2019s leading sports broadcasters.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/emma-raducanu-wants-play-less-2026-schedule\">Emma Raducanu makes revealing comment about\u00a0wanting to \u2018play less\u2019 in 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/ben-shelton-alex-de-minaur-former-world-no-3-names-potential-grand-slam-contenders\">Ben Shelton &amp; Alex de Minaur named as former world No 3 reveals four potential Grand Slam contenders<\/a><\/p>\n<p>She wrote: \u201cWanted to come on here and give everyone a little update since everyone has been asking!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been taking the last few months off to recover from the back injury I had at the end of the season. I\u2019ve also been undergoing a few egg freezing procedures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been one of the coolest things I\u2019ve honestly ever done! But at the same time these hormones I have had to be on are a real b****<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am so fortunate for the friends that have been helping take care of me during this time. I have one more procedure to go.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith all of this, I will not be competing during the first part of the year. But you will be seeing me in a different capacity with @tennischannel. This is all I will be sharing for now. More updates to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Collins initially planned to retire from tennis in 2024 due to her plans to start a family, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wta-tour\/american-tennis-star-danielle-collins-retirement-u-turn-health-update\">though she reversed her decision in the closing months of the year, due to complications with her endometriosis.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>2024 had proven to be a landmark season for the American, winning the biggest title of her career at the Miami Open, and then triumphing at the Charleston Open the following week.<\/p>\n<p>However, 2025 proved to be a greater challenge for Collins, who ended the year with a 15-14 record amid struggles with her recurring back issue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Want more from Tennis365?
