{"id":1528,"date":"2025-12-31T06:15:02","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T06:15:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1528"},"modified":"2025-12-31T06:15:02","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T06:15:02","slug":"carlos-alcarazs-biggest-mistake-revealed-after-reported-fallout-between-his-father-and-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1528","title":{"rendered":"Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s \u2018biggest mistake\u2019 revealed after reported fallout between his father and coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two-time Grand Slam winner Yevgeny Kafelnikov did not mince his words about Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s father\u2019s alleged \u201cinterference with the process\u201d following the split with Juan Carlos Ferrero.<\/p>\n<p>After seven highly successful years, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/carlos-alcarazs-full-statetement-as-he-announces-shock-split-from-juan-carlos-ferrero\">the Alcaraz-Carlos Ferrero partnership<\/a> is no more with the player announcing shortly after the conclusion of the season that he had parted ways with his long-term mentor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Alcaraz<\/a> won 24 singles titles \u2013 including six Grand Slams and eight ATP Masters 1000 events \u2013 and claimed two year-end No 1 trophies while he was also named ATP Player of the Year in 2022 and 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Ferrero, meanwhile, was named Coach of the Year in both those years, although <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/atp-tour\/carlos-alcarazs-coaches-beat-jannik-sinners-mentors-top-atp-award\">he shared the award with Samuel Lopez<\/a> \u2013 who joined the Alcaraz coaching set-up ahead of this season \u2013 this year.<\/p>\n<p>But while the split was a shock to the tennis community, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/how-strained-relationship-between-ferrero-alcaraz-camp-led-to-break-up\">insiders have revealed that there has been tension<\/a> between Alcaraz entourage \u2013 which includes his father Carlos Alcaraz Senior \u2013 and Ferrero for quite some time.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Want more from Tennis365? Add us as <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/preferences\/source?q=tennis365.com\" target=\"_blank\">a preferred source on Google to your favourites list<\/a> for tennis coverage you can trust.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It had been speculated that the Alcaraz camp wanted to get rid of the 2003 French Open winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/carlos-alcaraz-entourage-wanted-andy-murray-to-replace-juan-carlos-ferrero-in-2024-report\">at the end of the 2024 season<\/a>, but the player himself was not in favour of the move.<\/p>\n<p>With several reports of meddling from Alcaraz Senior, Kafelnikov believes it is time for the world No 1 to make his own decisions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest mistake is when parents interfere with the process,\u201d he told <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.claytenis.com\/interviews\/yevgeny-kafelnikov-alcaraz-ferrero-atp\/\">CLAY<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t know the background of Carlos\u2019s father, but I never liked it when someone does that\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor example, in my family it was me who was making all the decisions. My father never interfered in how much money I was paying a coach or whether I was buying this or that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom what I heard, there was a big dispute between Juan Carlos and Carlos\u2019s father. I\u2019ve always said that these kinds of situations will, in the end, affect the player negatively \u2013 when parents interfere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCarlos is a grown man, he is the one who can make all the decisions now. If Carlos approaches someone directly, that\u2019s okay,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first thing a new coach should ask for is that the parents stay away from the coaching process. They can sit in the box, they can travel with the team, but they can\u2019t interfere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA father cannot be an agent, taking care of all the deals, scheduling, and everything else.
