{"id":1550,"date":"2026-01-04T13:00:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-04T13:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1550"},"modified":"2026-01-04T13:00:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-04T13:00:06","slug":"why-jannik-sinners-reaction-to-french-open-heartbreak-left-marion-bartoli-in-shock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1550","title":{"rendered":"Why Jannik Sinner\u2019s reaction to French Open heartbreak left Marion Bartoli in \u2018shock\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Marion Bartoli has revealed she was left in \u201cshock\u201d after Jannik Sinner approached her for a warm conversation after his French Open heartbreak.<\/p>\n<p>After winning his first three Grand Slam finals, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a> tasted defeat in a major final for the first time at Roland Garros last June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/french-open\/carlos-alcarazs-epic-comeback-stuns-jannik-sinner-as-he-defends-french-open-title\">falling in five sets to leading rival Carlos Alcaraz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/french-open\/what-was-the-longest-french-open-mens-singles-final-of-the-open-era\">At five hours and 29 minutes long, the match became the longest French Open final of the Open Era<\/a>, and proved particularly brutal for Sinner.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian had led Alcaraz by two sets to love and a break and ultimately missed three championship point chances in the fourth set, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/facts-stats\/carlos-alcaraz-becomes-third-man-win-grand-slam-saving-championship-points\">becoming just the third man in the Open Era to lose a Grand Slam final after holding match point.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sinner was magnanimous and gracious in defeat during his on-court speech, and former Wimbledon champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/marion-bartoli\">Bartoli<\/a> has now revealed another classy moment from the world No 2 post-match.<\/p>\n<p>Having retired from the sport shortly after her 2013 Wimbledon win, Bartoli is now one of the most respected broadcasters in the game, and regularly interviewed Sinner during the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>During a recent appearance on <em>BBC 5 Live<\/em>, the former world No 7 revealed that Sinner approached her for a conversation after the final.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cHe made the effort to stood [sic] up, came towards me, and I was like: \u2018Is he really coming towards me?\u2019<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/holger-rune-opens-up-recovery-injury-carlos-alcaraz-jannik-sinner\">Holger Rune speaks out on Achilles injury nightmare and how he can catch Alcaraz &amp; Sinner<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-hidden-agenda-2026-calendar-grand-slam-adriano-panatta\">Why Jannik Sinner has a \u2018hidden agenda\u2019 for 2026 season, according to a Grand Slam winner\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201c[He] came towards me and obviously I stood up in front of him. He was like: \u2018Oh, man, it was really nice for your interview during 15 days. I can\u2019t wait to see you at Wimbledon.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I was in a state of shock, that after almost six hours of play on the court, he still remembers who I am, and make the effort to stand up and come on the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would have broke everything it\u2019s possible to break in the locker room if I would have lost a Grand Slam final after having three match points \u2014 and I would have definitely not made the effort to go around and wave goodbye to someone working at broadcasting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just 35 days after his heartbreaking loss in Paris, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wimbledon\/jannik-sinner-becomes-first-italian-win-wimbledon-carlos-alcaraz-streaks-ended\">Sinner bounced back by beating Alcaraz in four sets in the Wimbledon final, lifting the title at SW19 for the first time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Many noted the 24-year-old\u2019s astonishing response to what was probably the most painful defeat of his career, and Bartoli was among the latest to praise the Italian.<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cHe is someone made of something else and I think that\u2019s because of that he was able to recover for Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe level of integrity, of respect, of dignity, those two [Sinner and Alcaraz] are capable of showing in the toughest moments, is something, for me, absolutely extraordinary, and I\u2019m absolutely not \u2014 and I was not \u2014 at their level, and they\u2019re a true example, even for myself nowadays.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sinner\u2019s 2026 campaign will not officially get underway until the Australian Open, which begins on Sunday, January 18.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian is the two-time defending champion in Melbourne, and will look to follow in Novak Djokovic\u2019s footsteps as just the second man in the Open Era to win the title in three consecutive years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Want more from Tennis365?
