{"id":1569,"date":"2026-01-08T13:00:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T13:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1569"},"modified":"2026-01-08T13:00:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T13:00:13","slug":"carlos-alcaraz-snubbed-as-jannik-sinner-backed-for-historic-2026-feat-by-ex-world-no-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1569","title":{"rendered":"Carlos Alcaraz snubbed as Jannik Sinner backed for historic 2026 feat by ex-world No 11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former world No 11 Sam Querrey does not think Carlos Alcaraz will add to his major title haul in 2026 as he backed Jannik Sinner to accomplish a calendar Grand Slam.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Alcaraz<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a> have shared the last eight Grand Slams between them, having won two each in both 2024 and 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The outstanding duo met in the last three Grand Slam championship matches, with Alcaraz prevailing at the French Open and US Open, and Sinner triumphing at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz has won six majors (two French Open titles, two Wimbledon titles, two US Open titles), while Sinner has claimed four (two Australian Open titles, one Wimbledon title, one US Open title).<\/p>\n<p>Rod Laver is the only male player to achieve the staggering feat of winning all four Grand Slam titles in a single season since the Open Era began in 1968.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on an episode of the\u00a0Nothing Major podcast,\u00a0Querrey and his fellow retired American ATP stars Jack Sock and John Isner made some bold predictions for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy bold take is Sinner wins all four majors this year,\u201d said Querrey.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/pundits-predict-carlos-alcaraz-or-jannik-sinner-win-more-grand-slams-2026\"><strong>Tennis stars turned pundits predict if Alcaraz or Sinner will win more Grand Slams in 2026<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/carlos-alcaraz-jannik-sinner-domination-problem-tennis\"><strong>Former Wimbledon champion fears Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner domination may be a problem for tennis<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Want more from Tennis365? Add us as <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/preferences\/source?q=tennis365.com\" target=\"_blank\">a preferred source on Google to your favourites list<\/a> for tennis coverage you can trust.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Querrey also posed the following question: \u201cWhat\u2019s more likely: Sinner winning all four, or someone other than Sinner and Alcaraz winning one?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sock replied: \u201cSinner winning all four [is more likely].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Isner disagreed as he claimed Alcaraz and Sinner will not sweep the Grand Slams again this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d I think, on the men\u2019s side, we will have a Grand Slam winner who is not Sinner or Alcaraz,\u201d said Isner, a former world No 8.<\/p>\n<h2>Sam Querrey admitted he made an \u201cawful take\u201d about Carlos Alcaraz in 2024<\/h2>\n<p>At the end of the 2024 season, Querrey made the huge claim that Alcaraz would finish the 2025 season as the world No 5 after the Spaniard had endured a dip in form.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can see him ending next year at like five in the world,\u201d Querrey said on Nothing Major. \u201cNot like two or three; five!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Alcaraz won the 2025 US Open to reclaim the world No 1 ranking, Querrey conceded that his ranking prediction the previous year had been an \u201cawful take.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an awful take from me last year,\u201d said the American. \u201cAwful take. My apologies, Carlos. I was dead wrong!
