{"id":1653,"date":"2026-01-23T09:25:04","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T09:25:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1653"},"modified":"2026-01-23T09:25:04","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T09:25:04","slug":"emma-raducanu-gets-candid-advice-as-andy-roddick-questions-her-approach-after-australian-open-exit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1653","title":{"rendered":"Emma Raducanu gets candid advice as Andy Roddick questions her approach after Australian Open exit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former world No 1 Andy Roddick has given his verdict on Emma Raducanu\u2019s exit from the Australian Open as he questioned the way the Brit\u2019s career is being managed.<\/p>\n<p>World No 29 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\">Raducanu<\/a> fell 6-7(3), 2-6 to 55th-ranked Anastasia Potapova in the second round of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/australian-open\">Australian Open<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The 2021 US Open champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/emma-raducanu-wants-play-less-2026-schedule\">revealed during the off-season that her intention was to \u201cplay less\u201d in 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say that next year, I hope to play less than I did this year,\u201d Raducanu told the BBC Today Programme.<\/p>\n<p>Raducanu\u2019s preparations for the season were hampered by a foot bone bruising injury.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on his Served podcast, Roddick reacted to Raducanu\u2019s loss to Potapova and expressed his surprise at the 23-year-old wanting to play less.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpset on paper, but I had Raducanu losing in the second round. I love Raducanu, I think she\u2019s wildly intelligent, her game is obviously fantastic,\u201d said the American.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI read some stuff sometimes, where it\u2019s like, \u2018I played great in the second round\u2019, I\u2019m like, man, I don\u2019t want you to be okay with it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI read something this off-season where she was saying she wants to play less this year. Play less? You\u2019re a Grand Slam champion who is 30 in the world; you have got to play more! I want her to want to play more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t know all of it, but when you have an off-season to train, and you\u2019ve taken that off-season, you should be coming in pretty healthy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, we can\u2019t control all of the factors involved, so I don\u2019t know what I don\u2019t know. But half in, half out\u2026 I don\u2019t know, at some point, we\u2019re going to have to come up with a strategy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think the way that it is being managed now is going to manifest in a top five or a top 10 ranking.
