Tennis great Mats Wilander thinks Novak Djokovic is making a mistake by publicly acknowledging the superiority of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.<\/p>\n
Alcaraz<\/a> and Sinner<\/a> are ranked first and second and they have each secured four of the last Grand Slam titles since\u00a0Djokovic<\/a> won his most recent major at the 2023 US Open.<\/p>\n The dominant pair faced off in the finals at the last three Grand Slams, and they are heavy favourites to make it four in a row at the 2026 Australian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n Djokovic, the world No 4, is widely considered to be the third best player in men\u2019s tennis behind Alcaraz and Sinner.<\/p>\n The 38-year-old Serb has repeatedly acknowledged the gap after Alcaraz and Sinner in recent months, including after his third round Australian Open win, when he admitted the duo are playing at a \u201cdifferent level\u201d to everyone else.<\/p>\n The 24-time major champion did, though, assert at the start of his campaign in Melbourne that he still believes he \u201ccan beat anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n Lorenzo Musetti sends \u2018revenge\u2019 message to Novak Djokovic before Australian Open showdown<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Novak Djokovic\u2019s Australian Open near miss was \u2018worse\u2019 than infamous disqualification<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Want more from Tennis365? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list<\/a> for tennis coverage you can trust.<\/strong><\/p>\n In his column for L\u2019Equipe<\/a>, former world No 1 Wilander expressed his surprise at Djokovic\u2019s admissions about Alcaraz and Sinner.<\/p>\n \u201cOf course, Novak Djokovic is a bit slower than before, but he still plays incredibly well,\u201d said the seven-time Grand Slam winner.<\/p>\n \u201cHe serves just as effectively, his forehand is extremely powerful, and frankly, I can\u2019t imagine him losing before the semi-finals, because it doesn\u2019t matter who his opponent is, as long as their name isn\u2019t Sinner or Alcaraz.<\/p>\n \u201cNovak has a lot of confidence against all his potential opponents, except for those two.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m surprised he keeps saying so often that they\u2019re the best in the world and that they\u2019re so much better than him. Whether it\u2019s true or not, even if it\u2019s kind of him, he shouldn\u2019t say it.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s probably trying to take the pressure off himself and make people forget that he\u2019s still a contender for the biggest things.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s a strategy, though; it\u2019s just his philosophy.
