{"id":1728,"date":"2026-02-08T11:30:24","date_gmt":"2026-02-08T11:30:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1728"},"modified":"2026-02-08T11:30:24","modified_gmt":"2026-02-08T11:30:24","slug":"emma-raducanu-alludes-to-health-scare-after-heavy-transylvania-open-final-defeat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1728","title":{"rendered":"Emma Raducanu alludes to \u2018health\u2019 scare after heavy Transylvania Open final defeat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Emma Raducanu alluded to problems with her \u201chealth\u201d following her heavy defeat to Sorana Cirstea in the final of the Transylvania Open on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>An impressive run for<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\"> Raducanu<\/a> saw her defeat Greet Minnen, Kaja Juvan, Maja Chwalinska, and Oleksandra Oliynykova to reach the final of the WTA 250 event in Cluj \u2014 her first final since her historic 2021 US Open triumph.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/emma-raducanu-rankings-boost-first-wta-final\">However, following a three-set battle versus Oliynykova in the semi-final<\/a>, the top seed appeared to struggle physically and was far from her best in the championship match versus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/sorana-cirstea\">Cirstea<\/a>, with the Romanian easing her way to a 6-0, 6-2 victory on home soil.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/emma-raducanu-prize-money-rankings-update-transylvania-open-final-defeat\">Raducanu is projected to rise five places to world No 25 in Monday\u2019s WTA Rankings update<\/a>, and is currently making a quick return to action at the Qatar Open in Doha this week.<\/p>\n<p>However, the 23-year-old revealed in her post-match press conference on Saturday that she had been dealing with \u201csome health\u201d concerns in Cluj, potentially impacting her display in the final.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cIt was obviously really tough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Sorana played a great match for sure, and I\u2019ve kind of\u2026 yeah, just been kind of dealing with some health\u2026 just not feeling great this week and then [Friday] was obviously a battle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt quite tired today and just need to try and rest as best as possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, I mean, I couldn\u2019t do anything either against Sorana today. You know, she was playing incredible, and she has been all week, and I can\u2019t sing her praises enough about how good she\u2019s been, how nice of a person she is, and it\u2019s just great to have someone like her around on the tour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All eyes will now be on whether Raducanu is fit and ready for the Qatar Open, with the opening WTA 1000 event of the year already underway in Doha.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/who-is-alex-eala-first-round-opponent-qatar-doha-tereza-valentova\">Who is Alex Eala\u2019s first round Qatar Open opponent? 18-year-old Czech star who idolises Djokovic &amp; Sinner<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/aryna-sabalenka-iga-swiatek-backed-double-digit-grand-slam-titles-danielle-collins\">Aryna Sabalenka &amp; Iga Swiatek backed to reach \u2018double digits\u2019 in Grand Slam titles by WTA rival<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A tight turnaround means that the Brit will likely have only two days between her final in Cluj and the opening match in Doha, with the star and her team also having to travel between the two tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>Raducanu is unseeded at the WTA 1000 event, though has been handed a favourable draw \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/who-is-emma-raducanus-next-opponent-briton-heads-to-qatar-open\">with the Brit set to face qualifier Camila Osorio in the opening round<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Osorio is by no means the easiest opponent Raducanu could face, but it is a much kinder draw than facing a seed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/what-emma-raducanu-had-to-say-new-one-hobart-small-rankings-boost-on-cards\">and the Brit has already beaten the Colombian at the Hobart International this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Should Raducanu prevail, she could then face 11th seed Clara Tauson in round two, and potentially eighth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in round three.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Want more from Tennis365?
