{"id":1761,"date":"2026-02-15T10:15:38","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T10:15:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1761"},"modified":"2026-02-15T10:15:38","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T10:15:38","slug":"karolina-muchova-hails-victoria-mbokos-incredible-week-after-qatar-open-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1761","title":{"rendered":"Karolina Muchova hails Victoria Mboko\u2019s \u2018incredible week\u2019 after Qatar Open run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Qatar Open champion Karolina Muchova claimed that Victoria Mboko had \u201cmany titles\u201d ahead of her after beating the Canadian in the final of the WTA 1000 event in Doha.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/karolina-muchova\">Muchova<\/a> claimed her first-ever WTA 1000 title at the Qatar Open on Saturday, with the 14th seed beating tenth seed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/victoria-mboko\">Mboko<\/a> 6-4, 7-5 to lift the biggest title of her career to date.<\/p>\n<p>Victory for the 29-year-old saw her end her wait for a second WTA Tour title, having not lifted a WTA-level title since the Korea Open in September 2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/victoria-mboko-karolina-muchovas-prize-money-ranking-points-qatar-open\">And both women are now set for significant moves in the WTA Rankings<\/a>, with Muchova set to be up to world No 11 on Monday, while Mboko is set to be the world No 10 \u2014 cracking the top 10 for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>Though she was beaten in Saturday\u2019s final, Mboko\u2019s run sealed her latest breakthrough in the sport and continued her meteoric rise.<\/p>\n<p>The teen star was ranked outside the top 200 twelve months ago, though she has soared up the WTA Rankings, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/prize-money-and-points-earned-by-victoria-mboko-and-naomi-osaka-in-montreal\">starting with her historic run to the WTA 1000 Canadian Open title last August<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/ranking-points-prize-money-earned-victoria-mboko-cristian-bucsa-hong-kong-open-final\">Mboko won her second WTA Tour title at the Hong Kong Open towards the end of 2025<\/a>, and then reached the Adelaide International final last January.<\/p>\n<p>The 19-year-old was unable to add a second WTA 1000 title to her collection on Saturday, though she still picked up some big wins during her Doha campaign.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/wta-rankings-how-elena-rybakina-can-overtake-iga-swiatek-at-no-2-in-dubai\">WTA Rankings: How Elena Rybakina can overtake Iga Swiatek at No 2 in Dubai<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/wta-player-says-f-you-tennis-community-surprise-early-retirement-announcement\">WTA player says \u2018f*** you\u2019 to tennis community in surprise early retirement announcement<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mboko defeated two top-10 players, world No 7 Mirra Andreeva and world No 3 Elena Rybakina, during her run, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/victoria-mboko-major-wta-rankings-breakthrough-milestone-reaches-qatar-open-final\">also beating former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko in the semi-final<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Muchova is a former world No 8 at the peak of her powers, reaching the French Open final in 2023, alongside runner-up finishes at the WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open and China Open during her career.<\/p>\n<p>And the Czech, who was ranked 19th in the world before her Doha campaign, shared a warm message with Mboko after her victory in Saturday\u2019s championship match.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cIt\u2019s been a while since I won a tournament, so it\u2019s just nice to get that feeling again, to be reminded of that victory feeling here in Doha, it\u2019s incredible. Thank you very much.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very excited, if I can take my words, I\u2019d like to, as well, congratulate Victoria \u2014 you\u2019re still a teenager if I\u2019m not mistaken, and you play with so much maturity, and you play incredible. It\u2019s been an incredible week for you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations, I\u2019m sure you have many titles ahead of you. Congratulations to you and your team, congrats guys, and good luck for the rest of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mboko will not have too much time to recover ahead of the Dubai Tennis Championships, with the second WTA 1000 event of the year already underway.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian is the 11th seed at the tournament and begins her campaign against Jaqueline Cristian, and could face a rematch versus Andreeva in round three.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Muchova has withdrawn from the event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Want more from Tennis365?
