{"id":1806,"date":"2026-02-27T18:30:48","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T18:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1806"},"modified":"2026-02-27T18:30:48","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T18:30:48","slug":"jannik-sinner-crisis-put-into-perspective-by-former-british-no-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=1806","title":{"rendered":"Jannik Sinner \u2018crisis\u2019 put into perspective by former British No 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The incredibly high standards set by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\"> Jannik Sinner<\/a> over the last couple of years mean any minor dip in fortunes comes as a surprise, but former British No 1 Laura Robson has dismissed suggestions that the Wimbledon champion is in the midst of a mini crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner was beaten by Novak Djokovic in a shock result at the Australian Open last month and he then lost against Jakub Mensic in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/carlos-alcaraz-jannik-sinner-qatar-open-loss-matches-world-no-1-feat\">Qatar Open last week.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The level of dominance Sinner and Alcaraz have developed over their rivals means any defeat for the duo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-crisis-critics-sent-message-adriano-panatta\">sends shockwaves through tennis<\/a>, but Robson has laughed off claims that Sinner is looking vulnerable heading into the ATP 1000 events at Indian Wells and Miami in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone would love to have a Sinner-style crisis,\u201d Robson told Tennis365 in an exclusive interview at a Sky Sports Tennis event in London.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we all just read too much into every result those guys have if they lose because it happens so infrequently. It\u2019s like the world is ending. I\u2019m pretty sure they will be just fine.<\/p>\n<h2>More Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/atp-tour\/jannik-sinner-ranking-chance-carlos-alcaraz-no1\">Jannik Sinner handed a glorious chance to eat into Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s ranking lead<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/atp-tour\/atp-indian-wells-how-many-points-will-alcaraz-sinner-djokovic-draper-drop-at-atp-1000-event\">ATP Indian Wells: How many points will Alcaraz, Sinner, Djokovic, Draper drop at ATP 1000 event?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe went straight to America after losing in Qatar to get ready for Indian Wells and I\u2019m sure he will be fine when he gets on court again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former British No 1 Greg Rusedski joined Robson in playing down concerns over Sinner\u2019s form, as he offered up this verdict on the latest edition of his podcast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not worried about Sinner at the majors,\u201d said Rusedski. \u201cWe\u2019re seeing more variety in his game and we got to give respect to the rest of the tour,\u201d he said on his<a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=y-g-1eqK4B4&amp;t=12s\"> Off Court with Greg Rusedski<\/a> podcast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s lost matches back to back, having not won a tournament. This is a rarity,\u201d began Rusedksi. \u201cIs he losing form? Is he losing confidence? Are players figuring him out? I\u2019m not so sure. It\u2019s a minor blip in my opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook at Novak Djokovic. He was the only man who won three back-to-back Australian Open. Jannik Sinner was trying to do the same. If you look at every category statistically for that match [semi-final at the Australian Open], Sinner won every category apart from the final point of the match, which went to Novak Djokovic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNovak came up with an incredible performance to find a way to win that match. On paper, it didn\u2019t look like it was going to happen. And we\u2019re talking about two players in the beginning of the year, Hubert Hurkacz and Mensic who we said, watch out for those two.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Want more from Tennis365? So you got to take it with a little bit of a pinch of salt here.
