Kim Clijsters admits she was \u201csurprised\u201d by Francisco Roig\u2019s conduct when he decided to drop Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard for Iga Swiatek.<\/p>\n
Following his split from Emma Raducanu after this year\u2019s Australian Open, Roig started working with Perricard at the beginning of March, but a month later he swapped the Frenchman for six-time Grand Slam winner Swiatek<\/a>.<\/p>\n Reigning Wimbledon champion Swiatek confirmed her decision to part ways with Wim Fissette on 23 March<\/a> following her early exit from the Miami Open and a few days later Roig\u2019s name was mentioned as a possible replacement.<\/p>\n The announcement that the Spaniard \u2013 who coached the great Rafael Nadal during his peak \u2013 would replace Fissette was made on 2 April and two days later a disappointed Perricard slammed Roig<\/a> during an interview with L\u2019Equipe over the way he handled the situation, saying: \u201cIt was my agent who informed me. He didn\u2019t tell me directly. I trusted his word, what he could bring to the table.<\/p>\n \u201cTo throw all that away so quickly seems like a shame to me. He told my agent, he didn\u2019t tell me directly.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd he used the term, I\u2019m sure it was translated, it\u2019s a \u2018ruthless world\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n Former world No 1 Clijsters replied: \u201cThat\u2019s unbelievable.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is [tough for Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard] and to me, a little bit surprising, to hear it happened like that.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that everything that\u2019s attached to Rafa [Nadal], you set a very high standard, so it was surprising to hear that there was maybe no [discussion]\u2026 unless maybe he missed something!
