{"id":2042,"date":"2026-04-17T15:11:49","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T15:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2042"},"modified":"2026-04-17T15:11:49","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T15:11:49","slug":"carlos-alcaraz-withdraws-from-the-madrid-masters-as-injury-concern-grows-it-hurts-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2042","title":{"rendered":"Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from the Madrid Masters as injury concern grows \u2013 \u2018It hurts me\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Madrid Masters after failing to sufficiently recover from the injury which he suffered at the Barcelona Open.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, the Spaniard was in action at the ATP 500 on Tuesday, defeating Otto Virtanen 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite the scoreline, Alcaraz looked extremely concerned by wrist discomfort towards the end of the first set.<\/p>\n<p>The next day, he opted to skip practice and then withdrew from the tournament entirely.<\/p>\n<p>The world No 2 was next scheduled to participate in the Madrid Masters, taking place from April 22 \u2013 May 3, an event that he has now also withdrawn from.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are some pieces of news that are very difficult to share,\u201d said the six-time Grand Slam champion in a post on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMadrid is like home to me \u2013 one of the most special stops on the calendar \u2013 and that\u2019s why it hurts so much not to be able to play here for the second year in a row.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s especially painful not to be there in front of my fans at such an important tournament.
