{"id":2055,"date":"2026-04-19T12:30:28","date_gmt":"2026-04-19T12:30:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2055"},"modified":"2026-04-19T12:30:28","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T12:30:28","slug":"carlos-alcaraz-gets-some-candid-advice-from-former-top-20-player-after-injury-setback","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2055","title":{"rendered":"Carlos Alcaraz gets some candid advice from former top 20 player after injury setback"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leading players have consistently complained about the draining nature of the schedule on the WTA and ATP Tours, but former top 20 star Benoit Paire has suggested the game\u2019s leading names are creating their own problems by playing too much tennis.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/iga-swiatek\">Iga Swiatek<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/alexander-zverev\">Alexander Zverev<\/a> are among the big names who have spoken out against the relentless demands of the sport, with travelling and adapting to new surfaces and balls thrown into the mix.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/madrid-open-withdrawals-13-stars-out-novak-djokovic-carlos-alcaraz-growing-list\">Alcaraz is the latest player to be downed by an injury<\/a> after he suffered a wrist problem after opting to play back-to-back weeks in Monte Carlo and Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>The injury has forced him to pull out of next week\u2019s Madrid Open and has cast a doubt over his hopes of defending his French Open title at Roland Garros next month.<\/p>\n<p>Yet Paire has suggested that players of Alcaraz\u2019s earning potential are in a position to do more to avoid injury problems, as he questioned the decision to squeeze lucrative exhibition events into their schedule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWinning money is important,\u201d declares Paire, in an exclusive interview with Tennis365 and the <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rolandgarros.com\/en-us\/page\/roland-garros-eseries-by-renault\">Roland Garros e-series<\/a>. \u201cWhen I finish my career, I need to have money, so for me, the calendar in tennis is good.<\/p>\n<h2>More Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/atp-tour\/atp-rankings-no-1-battle-jannik-sinner-dominant-lead-carlos-alcaraz-french-open-top-seed\">ATP Rankings No 1 battle: Jannik Sinner has a chance to take dominant lead over Carlos Alcaraz<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/atp-tour\/jannik-sinner-carlos-alcaraz-grand-slam-total-prediction\">Jannik Sinner backed to \u2018win more Grand Slams\u2019 than Carlos Alcaraz by former top 20 player<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, when you hear players saying the calendar is too long, it\u2019s because they play a lot of exhibitions. If they want to stop, they can stop and not play any exhibitions. That\u2019s what I think.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey play exhibitions because they want to win more money. It\u2019s not because the calendar is too long. That\u2019s why I am sad when they cut some of the ATP 250 tournaments because it is important for the young players to play.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-101572\" class=\"wp-image-101572 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/d2me2qg8dfiw8u.cloudfront.net\/content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/24175550\/Benoit-Paire-frustrated.jpg\" alt=\"Benoit Paire sitting down\" width=\"1024\" height=\"600\" \/>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Benoit Paire<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Former British No 1 Greg Rusedski has also questioned Alcaraz\u2019s decision to cash in on his fame by playing in lucrative exhibition matches.<\/p>\n<p>The Spaniard played his rival Jannik Sinner in a match in China in January and he also took part in exhibition matches in Saudi Arabia and America at the back end of last season.<\/p>\n<p>That inspired Rusedski to question his scheduling choice, as he urged him to take more time away from the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think with Alcaraz, he\u2019s played a little bit too much tennis,\u201d said <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@offcourtwithgreg\">Rusedski on his podcast.<\/a> \u201cYou look at the end of the season, he didn\u2019t really have an off-season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe played a lot of exhibitions in America, he went to the one in Korea before the Australian Open, then he played in Doha as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Want more from Tennis365?
