{"id":2070,"date":"2026-04-22T10:00:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T10:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2070"},"modified":"2026-04-22T10:00:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T10:00:07","slug":"jannik-sinner-on-quite-unique-carlos-alcaraz-and-novak-djokovic-situation-at-madrid-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2070","title":{"rendered":"Jannik Sinner on \u2018quite unique\u2019 Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic situation at Madrid Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jannik Sinner admits it will be strange not to have both Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic in the draw at the Madrid Open, but he insists he will still face \u201cmany challenges\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh from winning four consecutive ATP 1000 tournaments with three of those titles coming in his last three tournaments in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a> will be looking to become <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/facts-stats\/jannik-sinner-faces-madrid-open-decision-chase-record-eluded-novak-djokovic-avoid-carlos-alcaraz-situation\">the first man to win five Masters events in a row<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And he will start his campaign in the Spanish capital as the odds-on favourite not only because he is the top seed and world No 1, but his two biggest rivals won\u2019t feature as Alcaraz and Djokovic are missing.<\/p>\n<p>Two-time Madrid Open champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/what-is-carlos-alcaraz-injury-wrist-roland-garros\">Alcaraz is out with a wrist injury<\/a> that could also result in him missing the Italian Open and French Open, while Djokovic has said very little about<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/novak-djokovics-next-move-issues-23-word-madrid-open-message\"> the injury keeping him out of action<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner, who will start his tournament against either Benjamin Bonzi or Titouan Droguet, told reporters: \u201cWhen they aren\u2019t in the draw, the situation is quite unique.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve shared many tournaments, but if I want to play Carlos, it will only be in the final. The road to a final is very long, and anything can happen there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time, I always take it day by day, with many challenges ahead of me starting with my first match against a qualifier who will already have a couple of matches here. Now we\u2019re trying to prepare as well as we can,\u201d the Italian said. \u201cThe plan is to play and compete as well as possible. I\u2019ll take it day by day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have the challenge of Roland Garros in the back of my mind, where I\u2019ll try to arrive in optimal shape.
