{"id":2077,"date":"2026-04-23T15:05:27","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T15:05:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2077"},"modified":"2026-04-23T15:05:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T15:05:27","slug":"carlos-alcaraz-made-a-mistake-by-leaving-juan-carlos-ferrero-claims-grand-slam-winner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2077","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Carlos Alcaraz made a mistake by leaving Juan Carlos Ferrero\u2019, claims Grand Slam winner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Italian tennis legend Adriano Panatta thinks Carlos Alcaraz \u201cmade a mistake\u201d by splitting with his former coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.<\/p>\n<p>In December, the tennis world was shocked when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Alcaraz<\/a> and Ferrero brought an end to a seven-year partnership that featured 24 titles, including six of his seven Grand Slams.<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz started attending Ferrero\u2019s academy in Villena in 2018 when he was 15, and he became the youngest ATP world No 1 in history after winning his maiden major at the 2022 US Open aged 19.<\/p>\n<p>Samuel Lopez, who coaches at Ferrero\u2019s academy, is now Alcaraz\u2019s head coach, having previously worked in tandem with Ferrero.<\/p>\n<p>In his first tournament after splitting with Ferrero, Alcaraz secured his maiden Australian Open title to become the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam.<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz\u00a0then won the Qatar Open in February before falling in the semi-finals in Indian Wells and the third round in Miami in March.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old was beaten by Jannik Sinner in the Monte Carlo Masters final earlier this month. I would be happy for him if he went back to Ferrero.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe relationship between coach and player is visceral: coaches dedicate their lives to the players they coach and follow every single day, sacrificing their families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA coach must first and foremost understand tennis and have no gaps in their knowledge.
