{"id":2110,"date":"2026-04-30T06:30:29","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T06:30:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2110"},"modified":"2026-04-30T06:30:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T06:30:29","slug":"italian-open-withdrawals-carlos-alcaraz-leads-list-with-doubts-over-novak-djokovic-and-emma-raducanu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2110","title":{"rendered":"Italian Open withdrawals: Carlos Alcaraz leads list with doubts over Novak Djokovic and Emma Raducanu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is the highest-profile player who won\u2019t be in action at the Italian Open as he is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, while it remains to be seen if six-time winner Novak Djokovic and British No 1 Emma Raducanu will play.<\/p>\n<p>World No 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Alcaraz<\/a> sustained a wrist injury during his opening-round match at the Barcelona Open a fortnight ago and withdrew from the ATP 500 tournament ahead of his second-round encounter, but had high hopes of playing at this week\u2019s Madrid Open.<\/p>\n<p>However, scans revealed the injury was more serious than initially thought and he was not only forced to miss his home ATP 1000 event, but has since also been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/carlos-alcaraz-withdraws-italian-open-french-open-major-injury-blow-comeback-unclear\">ruled out of the Italian Open and French Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz is the defending champion in Rome as he defeated local hero and reigning world No 1 Jannik Sinner in last year\u2019s final, but the Italian will now be the clear favourite, especially if Djokovic \u2013 who skipped the tournament in 2025 \u2013 decides not to enter.<\/p>\n<p>Djokovic has not played any competitive tennis since losing against Jack Draper in the fourth round of the Indian Wells Open on 12 March as he withdrew from the Monte Carlo Masters and Madrid Open, stating he is still nursing an injury.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/carlos-alcaraz-injury-jannik-sinner-boring\">Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s wrist injury has handed tennis a huge problem \u2013 and Jannik Sinner could make it worse<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/madrid-open-2026-aryna-sabalenka-elena-rybakina-coco-gauff-ranking-points-prize-money\">Madrid Open: What ranking points and prize money did Sabalenka, Rybakina and Gauff earn?
