Tennis great Jim Courier has argued it is \u201cabsolute baloney\u201d that\u00a0Jannik Sinner was allowed to leave the court for treatment during his second round match at the 2026 French Open.<\/p>\n
Sinner was leading 6-3, 6-2, 5-1 in his second round match with Juan Manuel Cerundolo when he appeared to start suffering with cramping and dehydration amid soaring temperatures in Paris.<\/p>\n

That should be counting down,\u201d said the American.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and think this might be an injury. This is unquestionably not an injury.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is unbelievably lucky for him. This is unfair for Cerundolo. The clock should be counting, he should be getting penalised for this. This is not an injury, he\u2019s reacting to different areas of his body. It\u2019s clearly cramping.\u201d<\/p>\n After Mary Joe Fernandez said the umpire was \u201ctrying to help\u201d Sinner, Courier replied:\u00a0\u201cThat\u2019s not fair. That\u2019s not right.<\/p>\n \u201cWe love the top players, they drive the sport, but you gotta apply the rules fairly. The rules are being bent for the top players.<\/p>\n \u201cYou cannot tell me you\u2019ve gotta take him off court to try to see what his vital signs are like. This is absolute baloney.\u201d<\/p>\n Former world No 4 Tim Henman shared his thoughts on TNT Sports.<\/p>\n \u201cHe is delaying play, and therefore, you\u2019re going to get a warning, and if you\u2019ve already had a warning for that, it can be loss of first serve, or it\u2019s going to be a penalty point,\u201d said Henman.<\/p>\n \u201cSo the umpire shouldn\u2019t be getting off her chair. It\u2019s not her responsibility, that\u2019s the player\u2019s responsibility.
