Serena Williams\u2019s return to the sport might have been one of the worst kept secrets in tennis this year, but her decision to play Queen\u2019s has floored fans.<\/p>\n
The 23-time Grand Slam champion is set to play doubles alongside Victoria Mboko at the London event, with many predicting it could be a precursor to a Wimbledon appearance.<\/p>\n
Williams has not played competitive tennis since losing to Ajla Tomljanovic at the 2022 US Open, and many are very happy to see her return to the sport.<\/p>\n
She announced the return with a social media video with the caption: \u201cGood news travels fast\u201d and the ending message of: \u201cGuess everybody heard the news.\u201d<\/p>\n

She simply wrote \u201cDreams come true\u201d with an emotional emoji attached.<\/p>\n Elsewhere, the likes of Caroline Wozniacki<\/a>, Andy Roddick\u2019s<\/a> Served podcast, and the Lawn Tennis Association also left comments on the social media post.<\/p>\n So too did Wimbledon\u2019s<\/a> official account, which will do nothing to dispell the rumours of the star returning to the Grand Slam for the first time in four years.<\/p>\n \u201cSerena back on the grass,\u201d wrote the Grand Slam about her Queen\u2019s<\/a> return, which takes place in the same city just two weeks before Wimbledon.<\/p>\n It should be no surprise that Gauff has reacted so emotionally to the news that Williams is returning, because she is yet to face the icon in her career.<\/p>\n Gauff and Venus Williams<\/a> played two matches previously, in 2019 and 2020, at Wimbledon and the Australian Open<\/a>, both of which were won by the younger star.<\/p>\n She has often named her one of her heroes, so it would not be a surprise to see Gauff enter the Queen\u2019s doubles, or hold out for Wimbledon, in the hopes that she could face Williams now she has returned.<\/p>\n Speaking at Roland Garros<\/a>, Gauff said: \u201cI did say one of my biggest regrets was not being able to play her.<\/p>\n \u201cEverybody\u2019s been hearing rumors and stuff, so if they are true, I guess we\u2019ll find out in a couple of days based off the rumours,\u201d she added.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019ll see.
