{"id":231,"date":"2025-03-29T14:20:10","date_gmt":"2025-03-29T14:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=231"},"modified":"2025-03-29T14:20:10","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T14:20:10","slug":"emma-raducanu-given-green-light-for-new-wimbledon-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=231","title":{"rendered":"Emma Raducanu given \u2018green light\u2019 for new Wimbledon coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Emma Raducanu has reportedly been given the green light to employ Mark Petchey as her coach for this summer\u2019s Wimbledon Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Petchey is currently working for the Tennis Channel as their TV commentator but the broadcaster has reportedly allowed the 54-year-old to work with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\">Raducanu<\/a> in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>The former player was in Raducanu\u2019s box in Miami, which saw the 22-year-old reach the quarter-final, her best performance in a tournament this year, and it appears their work together will continue for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p>Raducanu has already been through a number of coaches this year with Nick Cavaday stepping aside due to health issues before Vlado Platenik lasted just one match.<\/p>\n<p>Petchey, who also works with Amazon Prime, ITV and the BBC, was in the crowd for Raducanu\u2019s Miami exploits but is not officially part of her coaching team.<\/p>\n<p>The tournament in Miami was a welcome return to form for the Briton after she reached the first WTA 1000 quarterfinal of her career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite losing today I can take some good positives from this week and look forward,\u201d Raducanu said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I just need to take a beat and kind of reevaluate what I\u2019m doing. Obviously, when things don\u2019t go from strength to strength, the attitudes of some people change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s already getting called a one-Slam wonder like she\u2019s never going to win one again, and that must be incredibly difficult to deal with. People love to take pot shots at her but there\u2019s a lot more to her than just being a tennis player.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is so much more to her personality, and she has so many other interests which people don\u2019t realise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s not arrogant, but you\u2019ve got to be confident. You\u2019ve got to believe in yourself to exist and survive. Let alone thrive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennis is a ruthless, hostile environment where you have at a Grand Slam, 127 other players who absolutely want to beat your brains out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey want the same dream that you\u2019re fighting for, the same trophy and only one person is going to put a pair of hands on that silverware at the end of it.
