{"id":2346,"date":"2026-06-17T15:00:52","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T15:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2346"},"modified":"2026-06-17T15:00:52","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T15:00:52","slug":"aryna-sabalenkas-coach-admits-the-mistake-theyve-made-this-season-it-didnt-work-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2346","title":{"rendered":"Aryna Sabalenka\u2019s coach admits the mistake they\u2019ve made this season \u2013 \u2018It didn\u2019t work out\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aryna Sabalenka has achieved the highest of highs, as well as a number lows, throughout an inconsistent 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>Sabalenka earned the Sunshine Double at Indian Wells and the Miami Open, to become just the fifth women in tennis history to achieve the feat.<\/p>\n<p>However, the World No. 1 is yet to win a Grand Slam so far this year and she endured a difficult period during the European clay court swing.<\/p>\n<p>Sabalenka didn\u2019t get past the quarter-final stages of any tournament on the clay, which included a shock defeat to Diana Shnaider in the last eight of Roland Garros.<\/p>\n<p>In an exclusive interview with Tennis365, Sabalenka\u2019s performance coach, Jason Stacy, confirmed that he thinks they got the World No. 1\u2019s schedule wrong.<\/p>\n<h2>More Aryna Sabalenka news<\/h2>\n<p>Exclusive \u2013 <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/aryna-sabalenkas-coach-shares-honest-opinion-on-her-wanting-to-quit-tennis-at-roland-garros\" target=\"_blank\">Aryna Sabalenka\u2019s coach shares what he really thought when she said she wanted to \u2018quit tennis\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/aryna-sabalenka-deserves-an-apology-from-roland-garros-after-her-treatment-in-the-quarter-final\">Aryna Sabalenka deserves an apology from Roland Garros after her treatment in the quarter-final<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Providing an insight into how they concoct Sabalenka\u2019s schedule, Stacy said: \u201cAnton [Dubrov] and I are the ones who discuss what obligations she has, with the agent and the managers. We figure out where she\u2019s at, as far as physically, mentally, emotionally speaking to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a physio now that travels with us, so they\u2019ve been speaking the physio about what they\u2019re working on, what they might, we look at all the different moving parts, look at outcomes from the previous season, where her energy dipped, as far as be able to manage those things, her emotional and mental, and physical energy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very, very much involved in what we\u2019re going to do, not do. Ultimately, you know, she makes that final decision, if she\u2019s going to want to or not. She\u2019ll listen to what we have to say, and, usually she\u2019ll just say: You just tell me\u2019, but it\u2019s a tough decision sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But for the clay court swing, Stacy has owned up to his mistake regarding the World No. 1\u2019s schedule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClay, we made a decision, we had to, for a couple reasons, and [it] didn\u2019t work out the way we wanted,\u201d said Stacy, who has overseen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/aryna-sabalenka\">Sabalenka\u2019s<\/a> dominance at the summit of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/WTA-Tour\">WTA Tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe the decision we made, as far as scheduling and timing of certain things in our approach, it sounded good, and we all were bought into it, and we thought it might work really well based on last year\u2019s outcome, but, if you just go based on results, maybe it wasn\u2019t the best plan, so we\u2019ll go back and review what worked, what didn\u2019t work, what maybe we could do differently next season to help prepare better.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s a very, very big part of what I do, which again one of those big 3 E\u2019s (energy, emotions, environment) which is managing energy, which is like that\u2019s our number one priority.<\/p>\n<p>Sabalenka only played the Masters events on the clay ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/roland-garros\">Roland Garros<\/a>, with appearances at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/Madrid-Open\">Madrid Open<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/italian-open\">Italian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She was knocked out in Madrid by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/hailey-baptiste\">Hailey Baptiste<\/a> in the quarter-finals, while her tournament was ended in Rome by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/sorana-cirstea\">Sorana Cirstea<\/a> in the round of 32.<\/p>\n<p>Stacy was speaking exclusively to Tennis365 ahead of the release of his book, <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thepressurecode.com\/book\" target=\"_blank\">The Pressure Code<\/a>, which is released on September 8th.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the books inception, Stacy said: \u201cI just took the core principles that have sort of guided me personally, from when I was younger to all the different people I\u2019ve helped out with, my family, with clients, with Aryna [Sabalenka].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/aryna-sabalenkas-coach-admits-the-mistake-theyve-made-this-season-it-didnt-work-out\">Aryna Sabalenka\u2019s coach admits the mistake they\u2019ve made this season \u2013 \u2018It didn\u2019t work out\u2019<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/\">Tennis365<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aryna Sabalenka has achieved the highest of highs, as well as a number lows, throughout an inconsistent 2026 season.
