{"id":2357,"date":"2026-06-19T12:04:49","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T12:04:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2357"},"modified":"2026-06-19T12:04:49","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T12:04:49","slug":"john-lloyd-tells-emma-raducanu-she-made-mind-boggling-mistake-most-illogical-thing-ive-seen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2357","title":{"rendered":"John Lloyd tells Emma Raducanu she made \u2018mind-boggling\u2019 mistake: \u2018Most illogical thing I\u2019ve seen\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former British No 1 John Lloyd has spoken to Tennis365 about Emma Raducanu\u2019s reunion with Andrew Richardson following the Brit\u2019s impressive Queen\u2019s Club run.<\/p>\n<p>Raducanu\u2019s only tour-level title to date came at the 2021 US Open, when \u2014 as an 18-year-old, 150th-ranked qualifier \u2014 she won 10 matches without dropping a set across qualifying and the main draw.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after her staggering US Open triumph, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\">Raducanu<\/a> made the shock decision to part ways with Richardson \u2014 who had coached her in New York.<\/p>\n<p>Since the split, Raducanu has worked with five different permanent coaches, as well as a host of others on a trial or short-term basis.<\/p>\n<p>After missing over two months due to a viral illness, Raducanu rehired Richardson as her coach ahead of her return to action in Strasbourg last month.<\/p>\n<p>While she lost in the first round in Strasbourg and at Roland Garros, Raducanu reached the final at Queen\u2019s Club in just her third event since Richardson returned to her team.<\/p>\n<p>The 23-year-old earned straight-set wins against Anna Blinkova, Sorana Cirstea, Kamilla Rakhimova and Iva Jovic before losing to Donna Vekic in the championship match at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wta-tour\">WTA<\/a> 500 grass-court event.<\/p>\n<h2>Exclusive Interviews<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/leading-injury-expert-questions-if-jack-draper-can-tolerate-elite-tennis\"><strong>Leading expert questions if Jack Draper \u2018can tolerate elite tennis\u2019 amid injury struggles<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/aryna-sabalenkas-coach-admits-the-mistake-theyve-made-this-season-it-didnt-work-out\"><strong>Aryna Sabalenka\u2019s coach admits the mistake they\u2019ve made this season \u2013 \u2018It didn\u2019t work out\u2019<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Want more from Tennis365? Add us as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/preferences\/source?q=tennis365.com\" target=\"_blank\">a preferred source on Google to your favourites list<\/a> for tennis coverage you can trust.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In an exclusive interview with Tennis365 at the Queen\u2019s Club Championships, Lloyd described Raducanu\u2019s split with Richardson in 2021 as \u201cmind-boggling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I mean, no one else has said this, so I\u2019ll probably get in trouble\u2026 but to be honest, if I was Andrew Richardson, I would have thought long and hard accepting to come back,\u201d said Lloyd, and Australian Open finalist who reached a career-high ranking of world No 23.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter what happened at the US Open\u2026 that, to me, was mind-boggling. And then she comes back to him when she needs help.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut whatever, that\u2019s another topic, and that\u2019s for them to see that they\u2019ve worked it out, and they\u2019re fine. I just hope that she sticks with him and gives him a fair chance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said at one stage it was like Watford [the football team] of having a revolving door of coaches. It doesn\u2019t work.
