{"id":2366,"date":"2026-06-20T17:15:28","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T17:15:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2366"},"modified":"2026-06-20T17:15:28","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T17:15:28","slug":"jack-draper-makes-telling-andy-murray-comment-as-he-speaks-out-about-his-comeback","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2366","title":{"rendered":"Jack Draper makes telling Andy Murray comment as he speaks out about his comeback"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jack Draper has opened up about his injury struggles and his partnership with Andy Murray ahead of his long-awaited return to action in Eastbourne.<\/p>\n<p>Former world No 4 Draper has been sidelined since 13 April, when he was forced to retire from his first round match at the Barcelona Open due to a knee injury.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jack-draper\">Draper<\/a> has since suffered a host of physical setbacks that have caused him to delay his return to the tour.<\/p>\n<p>After missing the clay-court Masters 1000 events in Madrid and Rome, as well as Roland Garros, Draper pulled out of this week\u2019s Queen\u2019s Club Championships, where he had planned to play.<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old cut short his 2025 season after withdrawing from the US Open due to a bone stress injury in his left arm \u2014 an issue that kept him out for over five months before he made a comeback in February.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with the <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lta.org.uk\/fan-zone\/international\/lexus-eastbourne-open\/news\/2026\/jack-draper-on-his-return-from-injury-and-teaming-up-with-andy-murray\/\" target=\"_blank\">LTA<\/a> ahead of next week\u2019s Eastbourne Open, Draper said: \u201cI feel good. A lot of setbacks, a lot of struggle. Especially in this last year. But I\u2019ve kept on going, kept working really hard and I\u2019m just pumped to be back at a tournament to be honest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to give my all like I always do on a match court. To be here, to be feeling good in my body, to be ready and able to compete, let\u2019s see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Draper added three-time major champion Murray to his coaching team for the grass season, and he is delighted to be working with the British legend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAndy is amazing, to be honest,\u201d Draper said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a great relationship with him off the court, but on the court, there\u2019s not many people more knowledgeable than Andy. He\u2019s been an amazing support to me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think anyone can understand what it\u2019s like (having injuries) until you\u2019ve gone through it. Andy obviously has been through so much in his career \u2013 many setbacks, many injuries, many adversities, but he always came through them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was incredibly good at coming back and showing what he\u2019s all about. Having him in my corner has been great from that aspect as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s nice that he believes in my tennis and it\u2019s about the progress. It\u2019s about the journey. It\u2019s not about one or two tournaments, it\u2019s what I\u2019m doing on the practice court every day, especially after my injuries. To keep progressing, to keep developing my game for the long term.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s really tried to instil that in me in this period when I\u2019ve maybe been a bit impatient.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 Indian Wells Masters champion added: \u201cThis grass-court season, I just want to get out there and compete again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been many weeks and months now doing the same thing, trying to get my body to cooperate, get back on the match court and I\u2019ve earned that right now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m here to compete, and I\u2019m focused on winning the match and doing the best I can. But there\u2019s nothing like competing in front of people. It\u2019s a feeling you miss.
