Former British No 1 John Lloyd has told Tennis365 he believes Jack Draper can win a Grand Slam title while describing the 24-year-old\u2019s injury issues as \u201cworrying.\u201d<\/p>\n
Draper is making his latest comeback from a spell on the sidelines at this week\u2019s Eastbourne International, an ATP 250 grass-court event before Wimbledon.<\/p>\n
In his first match since retiring due to a knee injury at the Barcelona Open on 13 April, Draper<\/a> defeated Marcos Giron 6-4, 7-6(5) in the opening round in Eastbourne on Monday. It was Draper\u2019s first win since he reached the quarter-finals at the Indian Wells Masters in March.<\/p>\n Since climbing to a career-high ranking of world No 4 on 9 June 2025, Draper has played only 19 matches during an injury-plagued 12 months.<\/p>\n The Brit, who missed over five months due to a bone stress injury in his left arm before returning in February, is currently ranked 160th in the world.<\/p>\n In an exclusive interview with Tennis365 at the Queen\u2019s Club, Lloyd lamented Draper\u2019s injury troubles.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel so bad for Jack because he\u2019s the real deal, he certainly would be if these injuries weren\u2019t occurring,\u201d said the 1977 Australian Open finalist.<\/p>\n Jack Draper says what Andy Murray has already brought to his game after comeback win in Eastbourne<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Leading expert questions if Jack Draper \u2018can tolerate elite tennis\u2019 amid injury struggles<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Want more from Tennis365? He\u2019s already got to four in the world, and that sort of looked like it was the beginning [for him].<\/p>\n \u201cBut now these injuries come up, it worries me a little bit because it seems to be various things, not just one thing.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen your body breaks down, and in this day and age, the physicality is huge. He\u2019s a big dude.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know his medical team, I\u2019m sure he\u2019s got the best that there is, and I\u2019m sure they\u2019ll find a way. But it\u2019s a bit worrying.\u201d<\/p>\n Lloyd, who reached a career-high ranking of world No 23, addressed Draper\u2019s move to appoint British legend Andy Murray as his coach during the grass season.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Andy Murray thing \u2014 that\u2019s great to have Andy. But he can\u2019t coach someone who\u2019s not fit,\u201d added Lloyd.<\/p>\n \u201cI think, probably, at the moment, there\u2019s a limit to how much they can push him. I don\u2019t know; I\u2019m not there.<\/p>\n \u201cBut I would imagine, coming back, you can\u2019t suddenly crank it up to the hours maybe you would like to because you\u2019re gonna [wrap Draper in] cotton wool a little bit.<\/p>\n \u201cI think having Andy is great; Jamie Delgado before was great, but I think Andy will also be fabulous.
