{"id":2379,"date":"2026-06-23T13:15:49","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T13:15:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2379"},"modified":"2026-06-23T13:15:49","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T13:15:49","slug":"emma-raducanu-gets-candid-verdict-from-tim-henman-over-unexpected-decision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2379","title":{"rendered":"Emma Raducanu gets candid verdict from Tim Henman over unexpected decision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tim Henman has revealed how he reacted to Emma Raducanu\u2019s controversial decision not to work with Andrew Richardson after her US Open victory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\">Raducanu<\/a> was coached by Richardson during her staggering run to the 2021 US Open title as an 18-year-old qualifier, but she parted ways with the former British player shortly after the triumph.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/sport\/tennis\/article-12083065\/I-got-brief-phone-call-Andrew-Richardson-opens-split-Emma-Raducanu.html\" target=\"_blank\">Daily Mail<\/a> in 2023, Richardson explained:\u00a0\u201cI had a nine-week trial contract that both Emma and I thought was a good idea to see how we would get on, and it ran through to the end of the US Open, stopping immediately afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a period of time after that when I was keen to re-negotiate the contract. I wanted to carry on, and I had a plan that I wanted to put in place for Emma.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter probably 10 days to two weeks [following the US Open], I didn\u2019t have a contract. Add us as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/preferences\/source?q=tennis365.com\" target=\"_blank\">a preferred source on Google to your favourites list<\/a> for tennis coverage you can trust.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2026\/jun\/20\/tim-henman-emma-raducanu-laver-cup-interview\" target=\"_blank\">The Guardian<\/a>, Henman admitted he was surprised Raducanu did not keep Richardson as her coach in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was surprised she chose not to work with him,\u201d said the former world No 4.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s worked with a lot of coaches since then and now I really hope that her decision to get back with Andrew works for both their sakes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s one of my best friends and I\u2019ve also been around Emma. So it would be good if results improve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked if Richardson is the right coach for Raducanu to find greater consistency, Henman said: \u201cOf course.
