Carlos Alcaraz has hit the first real stumbling block of his career with the wrist injury that has kept him out of both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.<\/p>\n
The Spaniard suffered the injury at the Barcelona Open in April and it has subsequently kept him out of most of the clay court swing and grass court season.<\/p>\n
The World No 2 does not have an expected tennis return date, although his next likely tournament could be the Canadian Open at the beginning of August.<\/p>\n
Mark Petchey believes the break from tennis could be good for Alcaraz, although he does expect the star to retire from tennis much earlier than the likes of Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a lot, it always looks great from the outside looking at him, but he\u2019s not necessarily somebody who wants to do it the way that everybody thinks that you should do it.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that having this time away will rekindle all the passion that he needs for the game, and I think that he\u2019ll come in fresher than ever. He\u2019s so young, he\u2019s got just acres of room to make things happen for himself.\u201d<\/p>\n Petchey predicted that Alcaraz would hang up his racket far earlier than many tennis players play until today, stating: \u201cDo I think he\u2019s going to have a Novak (Djokovic)<\/a>-style career? Probably not, but I don\u2019t think he needs to.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s going to give us enough entertainment, he\u2019s going to have enough titles to do it his way, and hopefully, he can feel comfortable enough to be strong enough to know that that\u2019s enough.<\/p>\n \u201cFor a lot of people, they always, if they\u2019re getting judged harshly, say, \u2018Why isn\u2019t that enough?\u2019 It is enough. If you do it your way, it\u2019s enough. It\u2019s OK not to love your job every day; it\u2019s OK not to want to do things.<\/p>\n \u201cHe has to feel when he comes back \u2013 because, for the way he plays, the artistry that he brings, that wrist needs to be fully healed.
