{"id":2410,"date":"2026-06-29T18:16:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T18:16:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2410"},"modified":"2026-06-29T18:16:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T18:16:16","slug":"jannik-sinners-rivals-saw-some-cracks-at-the-french-open-as-wimbledon-scare-raises-concern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2410","title":{"rendered":"Jannik Sinner\u2019s rivals \u2018saw some cracks at the French Open\u2019 as Wimbledon scare raises concern"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jannik Sinner\u2019s confidence has been questioned by a former Wimbledon finalist after his five-set opening round win at the All England Club.<\/p>\n<p>The world No 1 survived a scare to defeat 50th-ranked Miomir Kecmanovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-3 in the first match of his Wimbledon title defence.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a> was below his best for large spells of the match and hit 52 unforced errors \u2014 42 of which came across the first three sets.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, Sinner with 72 winners, including an impressive tally of 31 aces, and he never looked in danger in the fourth and fifth sets.<\/p>\n<p>The four-time Grand Slam champion was playing his first match since his dramatic five-set defeat against Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round at Roland Garros last month.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the BBC after Sinner\u2019s opening round win at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wimbledon\">Wimbledon<\/a>, Eugenie Bouchard claimed Sinner\u2019s early French Open exit exposed \u201csome cracks\u201d in his confidence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the rest of the players saw some cracks [in Sinner] at the French Open, and I think now they have this confidence that, \u2018hey, if I stay with him, I might have a chance later on in a match\u2019,\u201d said the former world No 5, who reached the 2014 Wimbledon final.<\/p>\n<h2>Wimbledon News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-admits-he-was-surprised-by-wimbledon-organisers-after-first-round-win\"><strong>Jannik Sinner admits he was \u2018surprised\u2019 by Wimbledon organisers after first round win<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/casper-ruud-carlos-alcaraz-jannik-sinner-grand-slam-streak-djokovic-nadal-federer\"><strong>Casper Ruud makes Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner confession as he admits he was \u2018wrong\u2019<\/strong> <\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Want more from Tennis365? And so I think that lack of confidence on Sinner\u2019s side, and the increase in confidence of the opponents he plays, plays a part mentally in these matches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEspecially a first round match at a Slam, Tough to overcome all of that considering what just happened at Roland Garros.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former world No 4 Tim Henman then gave his verdict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that\u2019s what happened in Paris, we saw that incredible upset, and then it was like the ripple effect, it went through the draw,\u201d said the former British No 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe underdogs were like, \u2018well, if he can do it, why not me?\u2019 And then the number of upsets that took place was incredible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then you\u2019re suddenly thinking, wow, are we going to have one of the biggest upsets of all time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tracy Austin, a two-time Grand Slam winner and former world No 1, also weighed in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think because he lost so early in Paris, you\u2019ve got to remember that he hasn\u2019t played in about four and a half weeks,\u201d said the American.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor a tennis player, that\u2019s a long time. And I can\u2019t think of anything more difficult than transitioning from high-bouncing red clay, to slick and low-bouncing grass.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are difficult conditions, [Sinner is] the defending champion, so extra nerves. You\u2019re playing against Kecmanovic, who has nothing to lose, who is playing freely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was actually surprised at how many unforced errors, un-Sinner-like errors, he was making.
