Grand Slam finalist John Lloyd has told Tennis365 that the Wimbledon men\u2019s draw is \u201cwide open\u201d as he raised concerns about Jannik Sinner and also commented on Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s injury.<\/p>\n
World No 1 Sinner<\/a> is the reigning champion at Wimbledon, and he is a firm favourite to defend his crown in the absence of Alcaraz \u2014 the world No 2 and his biggest rival.<\/p>\n Alcaraz<\/a> is not competing at Wimbledon due to a right wrist injury that also forced him to miss the 2026 French Open.<\/p>\n Sinner won all five of the Masters 1000 events played so far in 2026, but his fourth and most recent Grand Slam title was his maiden victory at Wimbledon a year ago.<\/p>\n The 24-year-old Italian was an overwhelming favourite to triumph at Roland Garros 2026, but he collapsed physically in a shock second round loss to Juan Manuel Cerundolo.<\/p>\n Alexander Zverev, the world No 3, took advantage of the French Open draw opening up to claim his first Grand Slam title.<\/p>\n Andy Roddick calls out strange narrative around Jannik Sinner after Wimbledon win<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Carlos Alcaraz schedule: The three tournaments he is considering as potential comeback event<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Want more from Tennis365? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list<\/a> for tennis coverage you can trust.<\/strong><\/p>\n In an exclusive interview with Tennis365, Lloyd said tennis \u201cneeds\u201d Alcaraz to return from his injury.<\/p>\n \u201cI heard that he\u2019s now running without the cast, so that\u2019s a good sign,\u201d said Lloyd, who was a runner-up at the Australian Open in 1977.<\/p>\n \u201cThe wrist is always a nasty injury. Quite frankly, we need him back, big time.\u201d<\/p>\n The former British No 1 went on to describe what happened to Sinner in Paris as \u201cvery strange\u201d and analysed how it could impact Wimbledon<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Sinner situation was very strange. I don\u2019t get that, I don\u2019t get that he couldn\u2019t close out one game,\u201d said the former world No 23.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was very strange, it was one of the strangest things I\u2019ve seen actually, in terms of a great champion, for it to go that quickly, from a position where he almost just had to get the ball over the net to win.<\/p>\n \u201c[Cerundolo] basically knew he was gone. For Sinner not to get one game and close it, it was a big surprise.<\/p>\n \u201cWimbledon for me, people have got to be looking at it going, \u2018well, we don\u2019t quite know about Jannik after the French.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cAnd if something could happen to him, the rest of the draw must be thinking\u2026<\/p>\n \u201cAnd without Alcaraz. I know [Novak] Djokovic is still hanging in, but it\u2019s a pretty much wide open draw \u2014 if you take out Sinner, and Sinner may not be 100%.
