{"id":2423,"date":"2026-07-02T11:45:11","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T11:45:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2423"},"modified":"2026-07-02T11:45:11","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T11:45:11","slug":"jannik-sinners-biggest-problem-at-wimbledon-this-year-could-not-be-clearer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2423","title":{"rendered":"Jannik Sinner\u2019s biggest problem at Wimbledon this year could not be clearer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jannik Sinner is through to the third round of Wimbledon, but he has been far from convincing in his first two matches at SW19.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian is looking to defend his Wimbledon title, and he would become just the tenth man in tennis history to win back-to-back Grand Slams at the London event if he does so.<\/p>\n<p>While Sinner entered the tournament as one of the overwhelming favourites, he has not been putting in the type of performances we have come to expect from the World No 1.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner needed five sets to defeat Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round and he was just a set away from an early exit against the Serbian star.<\/p>\n<p>The scoreline for his match against Nuno Borges in round two was far more convincing, but he still showcased several weaknesses against the Portuguese star.<\/p>\n<p>He was broken several times and he needed two tie-breaks to defeat the World No 51 and set up a third round clash with Jenson Brooksby next.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner\u2019s performances so far at Wimbledon are a far cry from what was saw from the World No 1 during his Grand Slam winning campaign last year.<\/p>\n<h2>More Jannik Sinner news<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/john-mcenroe-claims-jannik-sinner-physical-issues-are-mainly-mental-wimbledon\">Wimbledon: John McEnroe says Jannik Sinner\u2019s physical issues are \u2018mainly mental\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-showcases-frightening-level-during-latest-wimbledon-practice\">Jannik Sinner showcases frightening level during latest Wimbledon practice<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Italian didn\u2019t drop a set until the fourth round in 2025 and there is one astonishing stat which truly exhibits Sinner\u2019s drop off at this year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n<p>In his first two matches at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/wimbledon\">Wimbledon<\/a> last year, against Luca Nardi and Aleksandar Vukic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a> hit just 14 unforced errors on his forehand side.<\/p>\n<p>This year, against Kecmanovic and Borges, Sinner has already hit 43 unforced errors on his forehand side.<\/p>\n<p>That is shocking difference for the Italian and it\u2019s allowed several lower-ranked players a chance to truly give it a go against the once unbeatable presence on the other side of the court.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s especially surprising as Sinner\u2019s forehand has often been his biggest weapon and it\u2019s helped him claim several Grand Slam and Masters titles over the years.<\/p>\n<p>At one point in his match against Borges, Sinner was averaging a forehand quality rating of 6.7, which is almost unheard of for the Italian.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s absolutely essential that Sinner addresses his recent woes on his forehand side if he wants to claim back-to-back Wimbledon titles this year.<\/p>\n<p>Against the top players, especially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\">Novak Djokovic<\/a>, who he could play in the semi-finals, he will absolutely be punished if he gives away that number of free points of his forehand side.<\/p>\n<p>At present, Sinner\u2019s big serving has been enough to counter act his difficulties on his forehand side, but that is surely not sustainable at the latter stages of a Grand Slam such as Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinners-biggest-problem-at-wimbledon-this-year-could-not-be-clearer\">Jannik Sinner\u2019s biggest problem at Wimbledon this year could not be clearer<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/\">Tennis365<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jannik Sinner is through to the third round of Wimbledon, but he has been far from convincing in his first two matches at SW19.
