{"id":2426,"date":"2026-07-02T06:30:42","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T06:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2426"},"modified":"2026-07-02T06:30:42","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T06:30:42","slug":"iga-swiateks-turbulent-team-dynamics-under-the-spotlight-after-emotional-wimbledon-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=2426","title":{"rendered":"Iga Swiatek\u2019s \u2018turbulent\u2019 team dynamics under the spotlight after emotional Wimbledon win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Iga Swiatek made a nervous start to her Wimbledon title defence and the behaviour of members of her team during her match against Taylor Townsend raised several eyebrows.<\/p>\n<p>The six-time Grand Slam winner was handed a tough opening assignment at the All England Club as Townsend is known for lifting her game for the big occasion and that proved to be the case on Centre Court on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/iga-swiatek\">Swiatek<\/a> saved five break points in her opening game of the match, but appeared to settle down after that as she went on to break three times to take the opening set.<\/p>\n<p>But Townsend sensed that she was still jittery in the second set as the American raced into a 4-0 lead and eventually took it to a decider.<\/p>\n<p>And Swiatek also struggled at the start of the third set, saving four break points before two late breaks earned her a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 victory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/iga-swiatek-emotional-statement-wimbledon-win-crying\">There was an outpouring of emotion<\/a> at the end of the match as the Pole cried while sitting down on her chair and during her post-match reaction, she admitted \u201cit was a tough couple of weeks\u201d without going into further detail.<\/p>\n<h2>Iga Swiatek News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/iga-swiatek-speaks-out-criticism-psychologist-daria-abramowicz\"><strong>Iga Swiatek sends clear message to critics of her psychologist Daria Abramowicz<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/iga-swiatek-rankings-peril-wimbledon-tears\">Iga Swiatek facing rankings peril as Wimbledon emotions highlight a crumbling aura<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But concerns were raised about the interactions of her team members, particularly coach Francisco Roig and sports psychologist Daria Abramowicz, as there was a lot of \u201cgesturing\u201d during the encounter.<\/p>\n<p>The Tennis Podcast\u2019s Catherine Whittaker witnessed it all and revealed: \u201cThere were quite a few head-up interactions in her box throughout the match between Francisco Roig, her coach, and Daria Abramowicz, her psychologist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did see them high-five at the end of the match, the whole team high-fived amongst themselves when she won.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut then Francisco Roig left the box on his own, didn\u2019t look back and wait for the others. They were all there, he had left on his own. It\u2019s not giving harmonious and settled [atmosphere] at the moment and Swiatek, I think, is somebody who needs harmonious and settled and quiet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on, but I just sense it\u2019s turbulent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David Law added: \u201cWhenever we saw Roig with [Emma] Raducanu, he talks a lot, he is a lot, I think.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whittaker then replied: \u201cAnd she\u2019s [Abramowicz] a lot, she talks a lot and from her perspective \u2018I\u2019m the one who has been here for however many years\u2019. Her role is wide-ranging, it is not as simple as just a psychologist anymore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom his perspective, he is probably like \u2018I\u2019m the coach, you do your psychology, leave the coaching to me\u2019.
