Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s absence is being keenly felt at Wimbledon, but legendary tennis coach Rick Macci has told Tennis365 he is \u201cnot worried\u201d about the Spanish superstar\u2019s wrist injury.<\/p>\n
World No 2 Alcaraz has not played since sustaining a right wrist injury during his first round win at the Barcelona Open almost three months ago.<\/p>\n
Alcaraz<\/a> has not disclosed the specific nature of the injury, with some reports claiming it is an inflamed tendon sheath in his wrist.<\/p>\n The seven-time Grand Slam champion pulled out of both Roland Garros and Wimbledon well in advance of the respective start dates.<\/p>\n The 23-year-old has not revealed when he plans to make his comeback, although he shared a video of himself on court and gently hitting forehands and backhands<\/a> just over a week ago.<\/p>\n Macci \u2014 a former coach of Serena and Venus Williams \u2014 is not concerned by the length of Alcaraz\u2019s absence from the tour.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s smart they\u2019re playing the long game. He\u2019s an amazing competitor, and probably no one wants to play more than him,\u201d Macci said in an exclusive interview with Tennis365,<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s taking the advice that he\u2019s gotten. And he\u2019s so young. But, I don\u2019t think we\u2019re gonna know the answer to the wrist situation until he returns and he starts playing again.<\/p>\n \u201cIs it gonna bubble up again? Or is it gonna be [more] history? We\u2019re really not gonna know the extent of exactly what has happened.<\/p>\n \u201cBut I think he\u2019s doing the best he can, he\u2019s being cautious. We\u2019ll know when he starts playing again how all this unfolds.\u201d<\/p>\n Macci went on to declare that Alcaraz \u201cwill not change anything\u201d as a result of his injury and described him as \u201cthe best role model\u201d for young players.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s the Spanish magician, he holds the racket like a paintbrush, and he does a lot of interesting things with his hands and wrist,\u201d continued the American.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd we could say this and that [about his technique and playing style], but listen, that\u2019s his DNA. He\u2019s an artist, he\u2019s a virtuoso.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is how he plays \u2014 from the heart and from the soul. He\u2019s not gonna change anything, and hopefully this will not be a big thing because let\u2019s face it, his charisma, and his spirit\u2026 he is must-see TV.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd he is the best role model for every junior tennis player; if you want to really see how good you can become, you can\u2019t be afraid to fail when you\u2019re a kid, and you\u2019ve got to develop a complete game.<\/p>\n \u201cLet\u2019s hope that he comes back.
