{"id":245,"date":"2025-04-02T13:42:14","date_gmt":"2025-04-02T13:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=245"},"modified":"2025-04-02T13:42:14","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T13:42:14","slug":"monte-carlo-masters-2025-entry-list-carlos-alcaraz-novak-djokovic-alexander-zverev-headline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=245","title":{"rendered":"Monte Carlo Masters 2025 Entry List: Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev headline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first clay-court ATP Masters 1000 event of the 2025 campaign will take place in Monte Carlo, and the entry list is packed with stars.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Monte Carlo Masters, which will be staged from April 6-13, will be the 118th edition of the historic tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Stefanos Tsitsipas is the reigning champion, having defeated Casper Ruud in the 2024 final to secure his third Monte Carlo crown.<\/p>\n<p>World No 1 Jannik Sinner will not feature as he remains sidelined by a doping ban that will expire on May 4.<\/p>\n<h4>How many players will feature in the main draw?<\/h4>\n<p>The Monte Carlo singles main draw will feature 56 players, a total including 44 direct entrants, eight qualifiers and four wildcards.<\/p>\n<h4>Who has received wildcards?<\/h4>\n<p>Richard Gasquet has received a wildcard for what will be his final appearance in Monte Carlo, with the former world No 7 set to retire at this year\u2019s French Open. The other three wildcards are yet to be announced.<\/p>\n<h4>Have any players withdrawn?<\/h4>\n<p>No players on the original main draw entry have withdrawn from the tournament. Besides Sinner, world No 13 Tommy Paul is the most notable absentee, with the American choosing not to compete.<\/p>\n<p>Miami Open winner Jakub Mensik was set to have to navigate the qualifying draw in Monte Carlo as his entry ranking was below the main draw cut-off, but the Czech has withdrawn.<\/p>\n<p>Zhizhen Zhang, Roman Safiullin and\u00a0Yoshihito Nishioka have also pulled out of qualifying.<\/p>\n<h4>Which former champions will play?<\/h4>\n<p>Three former champions are set to play: Novak Djokovic (2013 and 2015), Stefanos Tsitsipas (2021, 2022 and 2024) and Andrey Rublev (2023).<\/p>\n<p>Stan Wawrinka (2014) and Fabio Fognini (2019) are the only other active players to win the Monte Carlo title, and they will need a wildcard to play as their current rankings are not high enough.<\/p>\n<h2>ATP Tour News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/monte-carlo-seeds-carlos-alcaraz-novak-djokovic\"><strong>Monte Carlo Masters seeds, draw date, points &amp; prize money: When could Alcaraz &amp; Djokovic meet?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/most-points-prize-money-indian-wells-miami-sunshine-double\"><strong>Which men earned the most money and points at the Sunshine Double? \u2013 Draper, Mensik, Djokovic &amp; Rune feature<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Have any players used a protected ranking to enter?<\/h4>\n<p>Players who have been unable to compete in any tournaments due to injury for a minimum of six months are eligible to use the ATP protected ranking system.<\/p>\n<p>The protected ranking will be determined by the player\u2019s average ranking position during the first three months of their injury.
