Add us as<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/preferences\/source?q=tennis365.com\" target=\"_blank\">a preferred source on Google to your favourites list<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>for tennis coverage you can trust.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As Zverev himself explained, \u201c<span>That\u2019s why the umpires allow me to check my phone, so I don\u2019t have to poke my finger every changeover.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Zverev<\/a>, who disclosed that he had Type 1 diabetes back in 2022, had a bit of a scare at Halle in June when there was a malfunction with his glucose monitor.<\/p>\n<p>That led to him injecting a much higher level of insulin than he needed during his three-set loss to Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals of the German tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wimbledon\">Wimbledon<\/a> seed later said he felt \u201cabsolutely terrible\u201d, as he had to take in around 350g of sugar to offset the high insulin dose.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, all the Grand Slams have a list of players that are diabetic. That means, those individuals can use their phones during matches \u2013 something other players who do not have a medical exemption cannot do.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Lawn Tennis Association, mobile phones must be \u201c<span>switched off and stored away before entering the court\u201d. There is also a ban on wearing smart watches or similar devices on court.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The rules are so strict that if you break them, this can lead to the, \u201cI<span>mmediate dismissal from the tournament and cause a report to be sent to the governing officiating body who can initiate a formal investigation into the incident\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>During Zverev\u2019s match with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a> in the second set, lead commentator Andrew Castle touched on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>He said on the BBC, \u201cSascha Zverev is just taking his time and managing his diabetes with his [insulin] pen.
