Speaking to Tennis365, legendary coach Rick Macci has said it made \u201cno sense\u201d\u00a0for Emma Raducanu to split with Andrew Richardson following her US Open victory.<\/p>\n
Raducanu won her only career title to date in astonishing fashion at the 2021 US Open, where\u00a0\u2014 as an 18-year-old, 150th-ranked qualifier \u2014 she won 10 matches without dropping a set across qualifying and the main draw.<\/p>\n
Shortly after her triumph, Raducanu made the shock move to part ways with Richardson \u2014 a former British player who coached her during her stunning run in New York.<\/p>\n

Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list<\/a> for tennis coverage you can trust.<\/strong><\/p>\n In an exclusive interview with Tennis365, Macci \u2014 a former coach of Serena and Venus Williams \u2014 weighed in on Raducanu\u2019s choice not to keep working with Richardson in 2021.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, that made no sense back in the day, and I told everybody,\u201d said the American.<\/p>\n \u201cBut when you get fame and fortune\u2026 I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s her decision at that age.<\/p>\n \u201cYou got agents involved, and you got parents involved, and they think the grass is greener\u2026 and it became a little more slippery.\u201d<\/p>\n Asked if\u00a0coaching stability is what Raducanu needs, Macci said: \u201cIt cuts both ways. Sometimes, a different voice can be good. It depends on who\u2019s saying it. It\u2019s such a tricky thing.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s like Iga Swiatek, she went to [Rafael] Nadal, and these people are helping her on clay, and you can say, \u2018Okay, well that didn\u2019t work out too well.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cEverybody\u2019s a little different. On the pro tour, it\u2019s not as much technical or reconstructive surgery. It\u2019s a little more motivational and strategic.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, there\u2019s no reason for her (Raducanu) to flip the script and have so many different coaches.
