Legendary coach Rick Macci has told Tennis365 he has \u201cno doubt\u201d that Emma Raducanu has the game to contend for more Grand Slam titles.<\/p>\n
An 18-year-old Raducanu stunned the tennis world by winning the 2021 US Open title as a 150th-ranked qualifier in what was just her second main draw Grand Slam appearance after that year\u2019s Wimbledon Championships.<\/p>\n
Raducanu<\/a>, who did not lose a set in her 10 matches across qualifying and the main draw in New York, remains the only player in tennis history to win a major as a qualifier.<\/p>\n The Brit\u2019s next-best result at a Grand Slam is reaching the fourth round, which she achieved at Wimbledon in 2021 and 2024, while her overall record across her 16 appearances at majors is 26-15.<\/p>\n The 23-year-old\u2019s staggering triumph at Flushing Meadows remains the only tour-level title she has secured in her career to date.<\/p>\n Raducanu\u2019s two other runs to WTA<\/a> finals have both been in 2026, with the former world No 10 losing to Sorana Cirstea at the Transylvania Open in February and Donna Vekic at the Queen\u2019s Club Championships in June.<\/p>\n Injuries have been a persistent problem for Raducanu since her US Open<\/a> win, and she has not played since that defeat to Vekic last month due to a stress fracture in her right leg.<\/p>\n Emma Raducanu\u2019s name on US Open entry list, but Victoria Mboko, Hayley Baptiste missing<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Emma Raducanu\u2019s rankings rise may be a shock \u2013 but the fall may be just around the corner<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Want more from Tennis365? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list<\/a> for tennis coverage you can trust.<\/strong><\/p>\n Rick Macci has coached five players who went on to become world No 1: Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Jennifer Capriati, Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick.<\/p>\n Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tennis365, Macci declared that Raducanu is \u201cdefinitely a top 10 player.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always been a big fan of Emma,\u201d said the American.<\/p>\n \u201cListen, when you have that amount of talent, and you do what she did at the US Open by never dropping a set, and qualifying and winning a Slam, the talent doesn\u2019t go away.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat goes away is the confidence, and maybe a little bit of the fitness. So, she still has the talent and the ability. Now, mentally, is it the most important thing [for Raducanu], \u2019til your last breath? I don\u2019t know because I\u2019m not in that circle.<\/p>\n \u201cBut she has the talent, and when she plays on grass, she kind of reacts and is a little more authoritative. At the end of the day, I think it\u2019s great what she did, getting to the finals [at Queen\u2019s Club].<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s definitely a top 10 player, there\u2019s no doubt about it, if you go talent-wise. But talent doesn\u2019t get you into the top 10. It\u2019s how you compete every match \u2014 that\u2019s the key.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s just been a little bit too up and down. But it\u2019s only over when you quit, and hopefully she\u2019s going to keep on grinding.\u201d<\/p>\n Asked if Raducanu could challenge for a Grand Slam title again, Macci\u2019s response was definitive.<\/p>\n \u201cAbsolutely. Women\u2019s tennis nowadays, it\u2019s so fluid. Anybody can beat anybody,\u201d Macci said.<\/p>\n \u201cShe has the game, that\u2019s the first thing \u2014 you\u2019ve gotta have the game. She has enough firepower, and she can defend pretty good at times. It\u2019s just the competitiveness to die for every point.<\/p>\n \u201cBut absolutely, she can be back in the top 10 and she can contend for Grand Slams. I have no doubt. But that\u2019s between her and her.
