Former British No 1 Kyle Edmund has told Tennis365 that Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> \u201ccan\u2019t have any doubts\u201d when he returns from his wrist injury.<\/p>\n

In April, Alcaraz sustained a right wrist injury in his first round Barcelona Open win against Otto Virtanen, and he has not played since, having missed the rest of the clay season and the grass-court swing.<\/p>\n

Alcaraz is reportedly aiming to make his comeback at the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati next month ahead of the 2026 US Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old Spaniard holds a 22-3 record in 2026, having won his first 16 matches of the season \u2014 a run that featured titles at the Australian Open and the Qatar Open.<\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with Tennis365, Edmund assessed that Alcaraz<\/a>\u2018s injury \u201cseems significant\u201d and revealed he \u201cloves watching\u201d the seven-time major winner.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlcaraz, it doesn\u2019t feel like a minor injury; it seems significant because he\u2019s had to take serious time out and miss Grand Slams,\u201d said the former world No 14.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re missing Grand Slams, that\u2019s a proper thing. Those guys, that\u2019s their career: winning Slams.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor people that enjoy tennis, we don\u2019t need those guys out. I love watching him, so I would like him back. He\u2019s just got to be careful with the wrist.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know from speaking to people about wrist injuries, you\u2019ve got to make sure they\u2019re right when you come back. And there\u2019s a confidence thing to let go, as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think publicly he\u2019s being quite reserved with it \u2013 rightfully so, it\u2019s his personal thing. I don\u2019t know what [the injury] is, in terms of what happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut he\u2019ll be back when he\u2019s ready, and the way he plays is so explosive and physical that he can\u2019t have any doubts in his head. He\u2019s got to be able to trust his body.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully he can get there, because the game\u2019s better with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Edmund, who retired from tennis at the age of 30 in August last year, was derailed by a range of injuries in the latter years of his career, including a wrist problem in 2023.<\/p>\n

The 2018 Australian Open semi-finalist has suggested that the tennis balls used on tour could be contributing to arm and wrist issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have stats with the balls, but the arm injuries, the wrist injuries\u2026 I had a wrist injury at the back end of my career,\u201d said the two-time ATP title winner. \u201cI never had any wrist injuries before\u2026 I don\u2019t what that was.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was obviously coming back from a knee injury, so it might\u2019ve just been I wasn\u2019t ready for the demands of playing match after match.\u201d<\/p>\n
