{"id":258,"date":"2025-04-05T12:57:48","date_gmt":"2025-04-05T12:57:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=258"},"modified":"2025-04-05T12:57:48","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T12:57:48","slug":"rested-jannik-sinner-admits-that-rome-masters-return-wont-be-easy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=258","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Rested\u2019 Jannik Sinner admits that Rome Masters return \u2018won\u2019t be easy\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jannik Sinner has given his first interview since he accepted a three-month suspension from professional tennis \u2013 stating that he is \u2018rested\u2019, but admits that his return won\u2019t be \u2018easy\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The world No 1 continued his spectacular form at the 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/category\/australian-open\">Australian Open<\/a>, lifting the title by dropping just two sets along the way.<\/p>\n<p>However, his last eight months have not been easy \u2013 first found to have \u2018no fault or negligence\u2019 for failing two doping tests in March 2024 by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) before the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed the tribunal\u2019s decision in late-September.<\/p>\n<p>Just a few weeks after his latest Melbourne triumph, it was announced that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a> had reached a settlement with WADA to accept a three-month suspension, in return for the agency dropping their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very well, I rested and I\u2019m happy,\u201d Sinner stated to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skysports.com\/tennis\/news\/12110\/13342076\/jannik-sinner-on-accepting-three-month-doping-ban-you-have-to-choose-the-lesser-evil\">Sky Sports Italia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would have done many different things, obviously, if I could have chosen, I would have played tennis, but I\u2019m fine, and I\u2019m not even thinking about it too much at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sinner is due to return to professional tennis at the Rome Masters, the last Masters 1000 event before Roland Garros.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter we took this decision, it took me a while to find myself again,\u201d stated the three-time Grand Slam champion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I am still here. There is still a bit of time to digest all this, but I can\u2019t wait to be back in Rome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a special tournament for me, even though it will also very tough. I\u2019ll be back in a moment in which there will be already a lot of attention on me, and in Rome it\u2019s not easy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Italian\u2019s best result at his home Masters 1000 event was a quarter-final run in 2022, where he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6(5), 6-2.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner withdrew from the event in 2024 due to an ongoing hip issue, which forced his mid-tournament withdrawal from Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was very fragile after what happened,\u201d he admitted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would tell a lie if I said I was person without feelings or emotions. I am in the best position to play this sport,\u201d the 2025 Australian Open champion commented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the beginning I counted the days, but now every day that goes by, as the time gets closer, I feel better physically and mentally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if there is still time, it is a good opportunity for me to improve in those areas in which I had difficulties, on a surface on which I struggle. So, let\u2019s try to do something different.
