Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> has opened up about his preparations for the 2026 US Open and also looked ahead to a first round match he described as \u201creally difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n

The world No 3 has not played a singles match in over four months due to a right wrist injury he suffered at the Barcelona Open in April.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Alcaraz made his return to the match court to play the US Open mixed doubles event, where he partnered Serena Williams. The star-studded duo won their first match before falling in the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n

Alcaraz, who is the reigning\u00a0US Open<\/a> champion, will begin his title defence in New York against world No 98 Roman Safiullin.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard appeared on a live episode of Andy Roddick\u2019s Served<\/a> podcast, which was recorded at Flushing Meadows during the US Open Media Day.<\/p>\n

Former world No 1 Roddick asked Alcaraz how his wrist was, and how his preparations for the tournament were going.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it\u2019s going really well, to be honest,\u201d Alcaraz said. \u201cAt home, it was a great week of practice before coming here, which was a real test for me. Long practices, intense practices, just to see how the wrist is going to react.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere, [practising] with those guys, with the mixed doubles, helped me a lot. Everything. So, right now I\u2019m just excited, and obviously can\u2019t wait until the tournament begins.\u201d<\/p>\n

The seven-time Grand Slam champion was also asked about facing Safiullin \u2014 a player he holds a 1-1 record against.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I think it\u2019s going to be a really difficult first round, seeing that [it\u2019s going to be] my first match since April,\u201d said the 23-year-old.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a really talented player, because I think as much rhythm as you put in the match, he feels more comfortable. So, it\u2019s going to be a really interesting one.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s going to be a really great match to play. I\u2019m really excited. I\u2019ve got to be good, I gotta be good. What else I can say?<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I\u2019m going to practise these days just really focused on that first match, and let\u2019s see how it\u2019s going to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alcaraz also revealed what has he missed about being on tour.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, the first two months, it was okay. I was having fun with my family, friends. I just did some stuff that I wasn\u2019t able to do on the tour, but after that, I miss it,\u201d Alcaraz explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the beginning, I thought that I\u2019m not going to watch any tennis match, but at the end\u2026 French Open, Wimbledon, so\u2019 I couldn\u2019t miss it (smiles). So, I\u2019ve been watching those guys competing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been missing the players, seeing the faces, seeing the teams, everyone around. So, I miss that feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n
