{"id":283,"date":"2025-04-10T10:54:30","date_gmt":"2025-04-10T10:54:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=283"},"modified":"2025-04-10T10:54:30","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T10:54:30","slug":"anyone-saying-carlos-alcaraz-should-fire-juan-carlos-ferrero-doesnt-know-anything-about-coaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=283","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Anyone saying Carlos Alcaraz should fire\u00a0Juan Carlos Ferrero doesn\u2019t know anything about coaching\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Andy\u00a0Roddick has hit out at those who are calling for Carlos Alcaraz to replace his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero as he claimed expectations should be \u201creset\u201d after the Big Three era.<\/p>\n<p>Ferrero has been an integral figure in Alcaraz\u2019s development as a player and meteoric rise to the top of the sport.<\/p>\n<p>During an illustrious playing career spanning from 1998 to 2012, Ferrero reached world No 1 and won 16 titles, including the 2003 French Open.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Alcaraz<\/a>\u00a0has been coached by Ferrero since he started training at his compatriot\u2019s academy in\u00a0September 2018, when he was 16.<\/p>\n<p>The Spanish star became the youngest world No 1 in ATP history after winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open as a 19-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old, who is currently ranked third, has won a further three majors under Ferrero\u2019s tutelage.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the huge success the pair\u2019s partnership has brought, Ferrero\u2019s role has come under scrutiny from some fans amid a mixed start to the 2025 season for Alcaraz.<\/p>\n<p>Ferrero faced criticism from some quarters for Alcaraz\u2019s tactics in his defeat to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open quarter-finals in January.<\/p>\n<h2>Carlos Alcaraz News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/facts-stats\/carlos-alcaraz-clay-stat-monte-carlo-rafael-nadal\"><strong>The 5 men with the most wins from their first 100 clay matches: ft. He is currently competing at the Monte Carlo Masters.<\/p>\n<p>In a discussion on Tennis Channel, Roddick backed Ferrero and argued Alcaraz is being unfairly judged by\u00a0standards of success set by the dominance of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you guys remember the crazy times before the Big Three when players didn\u2019t make the finals every week,\u201d said the former world No 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, we kind of have to reset expectations, and one of [Paul] Annacone\u2019s former charges, Pete Sampras, as great as he was, winner of 14 majors, six year-end No 1\u2019s \u2014 he would lose third round sometimes. He just would. He would win one or two majors a year instead of three.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to reset expectations, right? Carlos Alcaraz already has more majors than Andy Murray, he\u2019s halfway towards icons like [Jimmy] Connors, [Andre] Agassi.
