{"id":290,"date":"2025-04-11T16:17:48","date_gmt":"2025-04-11T16:17:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=290"},"modified":"2025-04-11T16:17:48","modified_gmt":"2025-04-11T16:17:48","slug":"roger-federers-ex-coach-addresses-carlos-alcaraz-coaching-debate-and-jannik-sinner-rivalry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=290","title":{"rendered":"Roger Federer\u2019s ex-coach addresses Carlos Alcaraz coaching debate and Jannik Sinner rivalry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Renowned coach Paul Annacone believes it is \u201ca little crazy\u201d to suggest Carlos Alcaraz should replace Juan Carlos Ferrero as he discussed the Spanish star\u2019s \u201cvolatility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Alcaraz<\/a>\u00a0has worked with Ferrero since joining the former world No 1\u2019s academy in Alicante as a 16-year-old in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old has won all 17 of his career titles to date, including four Grand Slams, with Ferrero in his team.<\/p>\n<p>However, there have been calls this year for Alcaraz to end his partnership with his fellow Spaniard and bring in a new coaching voice.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Tennis Channel, Annacone gave his verdict on the Alcaraz-Ferrero debate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, I think it\u2019s a little crazy. But it wouldn\u2019t be the first time we\u2019ve seen crazy in the tennis world,\u201d said the American.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, we all like to jump to big conclusions when great players have stumbling blocks and we forget how young he (Alcaraz) is. Because of his personality, he\u2019ll come forward, he\u2019ll stay back, he\u2019ll hit drop shots and bring people in, he\u2019ll hit winners, he\u2019ll play steady.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former world No 12,\u00a0who won three singles titles, continued: \u201cSo, he\u2019s gonna be up and down more than someone like [Jannik] Sinner, who\u2019s in lockdown mode. His ceiling is a little bit higher, but I also think the basement\u2019s a little bit lower.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, we might just see a few more losses from Alcaraz, but I don\u2019t mind \u2014 it\u2019s gonna be all electricity. And look, the guy won two majors last year, so all isn\u2019t bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Annacone has coached Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, Tim Henman, Stan Wawrinka and Sloane Stephens.
