{"id":320,"date":"2025-04-17T08:24:32","date_gmt":"2025-04-17T08:24:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=320"},"modified":"2025-04-17T08:24:32","modified_gmt":"2025-04-17T08:24:32","slug":"carlos-alcaraz-and-iga-swiatek-break-silence-on-sending-letter-to-grand-slams-about-prize-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=320","title":{"rendered":"Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek break silence on sending letter to Grand Slams about prize money"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek have addressed the letter that they and other top tennis players sent to the Grand Slams about prize money.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, L\u2019Equipe reported that several prominent top 20 players on both the ATP and WTA tours \u201cco-signed and sent a letter to the four Grand Slam tournaments, demanding a substantial increase in their prize money\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn essence, this letter calls for a greater distribution of profits generated by the four pillars of the tour to benefit the main stakeholders: the players, without whom the show would not take place,\u201d the report explained.<\/p>\n<p>On the WTA side, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/iga-swiatek\">Swiatek<\/a>, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, Jasmine Paolini, Mirra Andreeva, Zheng Qinwen, Paula Badosa and Emma Navarro all signed the letter, with Elena Rybakina the only current top 10 player missing.<\/p>\n<p>ATP stars\u00a0who signed the letter include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Alcaraz<\/a>, Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Jack Draper, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alex de Minaur and Daniil Medvedev.<\/p>\n<p>The letter was reportedly given the green light by both the WTA and ATP Players\u2019 Boards.<\/p>\n<p>Swiatek was asked about her decision to sign the letter during a press conference at this week\u2019s Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I think, like, there\u2019s some data available on the internet about the comparison between tennis and other sports,\u201d the five-time major winner said. \u201cFor sure, we\u2019ve been discussing with Grand Slams about many topics.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/carlos-alcaraz-makes-shock-confession-wanting-stop-several-months\"><strong>Carlos Alcaraz makes shock confession about wanting to \u2018stop for several months\u2019<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/facts-stats\/women-to-have-beaten-iga-swiatek-on-clay-before-2025\"><strong>The 10 women to beat Iga Swiatek on clay before 2025: ft. Yeah, I don\u2019t want to speak out right now about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Marca, Alcaraz joined Swiatek in speaking about the topic for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennis is a well-paid sport, but it can always be improved because there is a percentage that can be increased for the circuit and the players. Tennis is a well-paid sport, but the percentages have to be fair,\u201d the four-time Grand Slam titlist explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we put on a show so the fans can enjoy it and pay to see us, then the percentage has to be close to what we deserve.
