{"id":333,"date":"2025-04-20T13:06:32","date_gmt":"2025-04-20T13:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=333"},"modified":"2025-04-20T13:06:32","modified_gmt":"2025-04-20T13:06:32","slug":"alexander-zverev-ties-incredible-munich-record-as-captures-first-title-of-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=333","title":{"rendered":"Alexander Zverev ties incredible Munich record as captures first title of 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alexander Zverev has emphatically returned to winning ways after breezing past Ben Shelton to lift the Bavarian Open title on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>In a battle of the top two seeds, top seed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/alexander-zverev\">Zverev<\/a> was rarely troubled as he saw off second seed<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/ben-shelton\"> Shelton<\/a> 6-2, 6-4 to claim the 24th title of his career \u2013 and ninth on clay \u2013 on his 28th birthday.<\/p>\n<p>Victory for Zverev sees him claim his third title in Munich, having previously lifted back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.<\/p>\n<p>That makes him just the second man in the Open Era to win three Bavarian Open titles, following in the footsteps of compatriot Philipp Kohlschreiber, who triumphed in 2007, 2012, and 2016.<\/p>\n<p>However, the event was upgraded from an ATP 250 tournament to an ATP 500 tournament for 2025, making this Zverev\u2019s most significant triumph at the event so far.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/novak-djokovic-next-tournament-madrid-open-andy-murray\">Novak Djokovic sends out bold statement of intent as Madrid Masters coaching team is revealed<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/tennis-drugs-showers-itia\">Row erupts over anti-doping \u2018chaperone\u2019 watching tennis players as they shower after a match<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s extremely special,\u201d said birthday boy Zverev, who receives a BMW for his victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always love playing in Germany, winning tournaments in Germany is probably the most special thing that I can do. It\u2019s definitely a great birthday present \u2013 let\u2019s put it that way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI definitely knew I had to play my best tennis today. Ben has been playing extremely well this week, I think the conditions suit him extremely well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very hot, very fast \u2013 it\u2019s perfect for me as well, to be fair.
