The 2025 Hamburg Open has been rocked by the late withdrawals of a host of big name players, with world No 1 Jannik Sinner the most notable.<\/p>\n
The ATP 500 tournament, which will begin on May 18, looked set for a strong field as the initial entry list featured nine of the current ATP top 20, including three top 10 stars.<\/p>\n
However, the event\u2019s new calendar position in the week before the French Open has proven damaging to its player field. The Hamburg Open was previously staged in July after Wimbledon.<\/p>\n
As well as Sinner<\/a>, Lorenzo Musetti and Holger Rune \u2014 who are ranked ninth and 10th respectively \u2014 have pull out.<\/p>\n Tommy Paul and Stefanos Tsitsipas are the other top 20 stars to withdraw, while 22nd-ranked Sebastian Korda and world No 23 Ugo Humbert have also chosen not to compete.<\/p>\n Sinner, Musetti and Paul all pulled out after reaching the semi-finals of the Italian Open.<\/p>\n Despite the considerable blows of the withdrawals, the tournament has been handed one big boost.<\/p>\n Alexander Zverev<\/a>, the world No 2 and Germany\u2019s leading tennis star, has accepted the A+ wildcard to play in Hamburg.
