{"id":481,"date":"2025-05-20T16:20:42","date_gmt":"2025-05-20T16:20:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=481"},"modified":"2025-05-20T16:20:42","modified_gmt":"2025-05-20T16:20:42","slug":"novak-djokovic-makes-telling-motivation-comment-as-he-opens-up-on-new-chapter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=481","title":{"rendered":"Novak Djokovic makes telling \u2018motivation\u2019 comment as he opens up on \u2018new chapter\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Novak Djokovic has admitted that he is navigating a \u201cnew chapter\u201d in his career despite insisting his \u201cdesire\u201d is still high ahead of his Geneva Open campaign.<\/p>\n<p>World No 6 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\">Djokovic<\/a> is competing at the ATP 250 event for the second straight year, having once again taken a wildcard into the main draw.<\/p>\n<p>The 37-year-old\u2019s decision to accept a wildcard came after a difficult start to his clay swing, which saw him lose in his opening Monte Carlo Masters and Madrid Open matches.<\/p>\n<p>Djokovic has not played since his loss to Matteo Arnaldi in Madrid, withdrawing from the Italian Open in the aftermath of his early exit.<\/p>\n<p>2025 has proven a challenging season for the Serbian, with the 24-time Grand Slam champion battling a range of issues.<\/p>\n<p>Djokovic impressed at the Australian Open with a quarter-final victory over Carlos Alcaraz, only to retire injured in his semi-final versus Alexander Zverev.<\/p>\n<p>That kickstarted a run of three straight losses for Djokovic, his worst losing streak since 2018, though he bounced back to reach the final of the Miami Open.<\/p>\n<p>However, he was beaten by Jakub Mensik in the final, and his losses to Alejandro Tabilo in Monte Carlo and Arnaldi in Madrid mean he is once again on a three-match losing run.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in Geneva ahead of his opening match on Wednesday, Djokovic conceded that the past few months had proven a challenge \u2013 but still had the same hunger to compete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a new chapter in my career that I\u2019m trying to navigate,\u201d said Djokovic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not really used to these circumstances, with defeats coming one after the other in the first few rounds \u2013 even though I knew it would happen at some point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m proud of everything I\u2019ve achieved in my career, but I still have the desire to do everything I can to reach my best level so I can win Grand Slam tournaments and beat the best players in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m here. I want more trophies, I want to build my form ahead of the French Open.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>ATP Tour News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/rafael-nadals-french-open-tribute-date-roger-federer-novak-djokovic-andy-murray-attend\">Rafael Nadal\u2019s French Open tribute: Will Federer, Djokovic, Murray attend after Malaga let-down<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-hires-rafael-nadal-former-coach-carlos-moya-darren-cahill-replacement\">Jannik Sinner has reportedly hired Rafael Nadal\u2019s former coach Carlos Moya<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/category\/french-open\">French Open<\/a> gets underway on Sunday, just one day after the Geneva Open final.<\/p>\n<p>Djokovic is a three-time champion at Roland Garros and is looking to capture a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>The Serbian is also looking to become just the third man to win 100 ATP Tour singles titles, following in the footsteps of Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer.<\/p>\n<p>Currently on 99 titles, Djokovic will hope to hit that milestone in either Geneva or Paris.<\/p>\n<p>And, in a warning shot to his rivals, he revealed his \u201cmotivation\u201d to be successful at the Grand Slams remained as high as ever.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cMy motivation is still there, but it\u2019s a transition period where I need to understand how my body reacts, where I need to deal better with the circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the idea of being successful, especially at the Grand Slams, even though I want to shine everywhere I play.
