{"id":55,"date":"2025-02-22T12:48:56","date_gmt":"2025-02-22T12:48:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=55"},"modified":"2025-02-22T12:48:56","modified_gmt":"2025-02-22T12:48:56","slug":"emma-raducanu-terrifying-stalker-hugged-the-brit-and-followed-her-to-four-countries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=55","title":{"rendered":"Emma Raducanu: \u2018Terrifying\u2019 stalker hugged the Brit and followed her to four countries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Emma Raducanu\u2019s former coach Roman Kelecic has shed further light on the \u201cterrifying\u201d behaviour of the man who stalked the British star.<\/p>\n<p>An unusual and concerning incident took place during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\">Raducanu<\/a>\u2018s\u00a06-7(6), 4-6 loss to Karolina Muchova in the second round of the WTA 1000 event in Dubai.<\/p>\n<p>After falling 0-2 behind in the first set, a visibly distressed Raducanu spoke to the umpire before she hid behind the official\u2019s chair while crying.<\/p>\n<p>Muchova consoled Raducanu, while the umpire spoke to security officials and also had a lengthy discussion with both players before the match resumed.<\/p>\n<p>A man was removed from the stadium during this break, and the WTA later\u00a0revealed that the same individual had first approached Raducanu in public the day before the match.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from the WTA Tour read: \u201cOn Monday, February 17, Emma Raducanu was approached in a public area by a man who exhibited fixated behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis same individual was identified in the first few rows during Emma\u2019s match on Tuesday at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and subsequently ejected. He will be banned from all WTA events pending a threat assessment.<\/p>\n<p>The man \u2013 confirmed to be a tourist in Dubai \u2013 has since been handed a restraining order, in return for having charges against him being dropped.<\/p>\n<h2>Emma Raducanu News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wta-tour\/emma-raducanu-applauded-playing-competing-stalker-incident-sam-smith\"><strong>Emma Raducanu applauded for \u2018playing and competing\u2019 after shocking fan incident<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/news\/additional-details-revealed-after-emma-raducanus-dubai-stalker-gets-restraining-order\"><strong>Additional details revealed after Emma Raducanu\u2019s Dubai \u2018stalker\u2019 gets restraining order<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kelecic coached Raducanu as a junior and worked with her at the tournaments in Abu Dhabi and Dubai this month.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Croatian publication <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/net.hr\/sport\/tenis\/slavna-tenisacica-emma-raducanu-dozivjela-stravicno-iskustvo-njezin-trener-roman-kelecic-otkrio-nam-dramu-37eb3702-f012-11ef-9a26-ee0b203e749c\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Net<\/em><\/a>, Kelecic divulged that the stalker also followed Raducanu to her previous three events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis man followed her to Singapore, to Abu Dhabi where I was with her, again in Doha, now in Dubai and we noticed him,\u201d the Croatian explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut initially we thought he was a fan, an admirer, because Emma is a really big tennis star with a huge fan base. Until he got physically close to her, started having contact in the form of selfies, hugging, etc.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The coach then provided terrifying insight into the man\u2019s \u201ccalculated\u201d plan to approach Raducanu when she was alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was the only moment in a month where I, the fitness coach, the security guard who was with us, was not with her at that moment,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, that man was assessing the situation and looking for the best moment to get closer to her. He had a strategy that was terrifying, he thought everything through, calculated it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s terrifying how much he, in essence, thought about it all and planned it. His strategy worked, and it was to get closer to her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat evening we reported it immediately and again in the morning, when she was playing the match, because her safety is the most important thing to us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThree or four hours before the match we have a photo of that stalker. Not only us, the entire security at the tournament has his photo and everyone knows who he is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first game, two points gone, 15-15, Emma is on the other side of the court and she\u2019s showing us something. At that moment we didn\u2019t know what it was.
