{"id":565,"date":"2025-06-05T09:27:43","date_gmt":"2025-06-05T09:27:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=565"},"modified":"2025-06-05T09:27:43","modified_gmt":"2025-06-05T09:27:43","slug":"john-mcenroe-gives-lois-boisson-verdict-and-admits-he-liked-anger-from-her-french-open-rival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=565","title":{"rendered":"John McEnroe gives Lois Boisson\u00a0verdict and admits he \u2018liked\u2019 anger from her French Open rival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>John McEnroe has revealed he is \u201cvery impressed\u201d with French sensation Lois Boisson as he labelled her run at the 2025 French Open a \u201cdream story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/lois-boisson\">Boisson<\/a> has stunned the tennis world by reaching the semi-finals at her home Grand Slam as a wildcard, having started the event ranked 361st in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old downed 24th seed Elise Mertens in the opening round before seeing off Anhelina Kalinina and Elsa Jacquemot in her following two matches.<\/p>\n<p>The Frenchwoman then\u00a0upset third seed Jessica Pegula 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a dramatic last 16 encounter.<\/p>\n<p>In the quarter-finals, Boisson pulled off another shock as she defeated world No 6 Mirra Andreeva 7-6(6), 6-3 with an amazing display on Court Philippe-Chatrier.<\/p>\n<p>Having been the 24th highest-ranked French woman prior to her run, Boisson will remarkably become the French No 1 when the WTA Rankings update.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on TNT Sports, McEnroe gave his verdict on Boisson\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/category\/french-open\">French Open<\/a> heroics and highlighted her physical strength as a major asset.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very impressed. I mean, I\u2019d never heard of her until this tournament and I\u2019ve only seen her play the last couple rounds,\u201d said the former world No 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve heard about the injury, she missed a lot of time. Her ranking is like 360, I\u2019m sure that is something to do with the injury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll tell you one thing, she looks like she\u2019s spent a lot of time in the gym when she was hurt \u2019cause she looks very physically strong and fit. And to me, that ended up being the difference against this teenager Andreeva.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe just looked like the grown up, the stronger of the two, and I think that really paid off, \u2019cause obviously it was a rollercoaster of a match in terms of the score. I mean are you kidding me? This is crazy. Is she even that known in France?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The American icon also shared his thoughts on Andreeva losing her composure in the second set and firing a ball into the crowd in frustration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI liked that, at least she was into it,\u201d McEnroe said.\u00a0\u201cBut if you get frustrated it\u2019s one thing, if the level of your game drops, there\u2019s a way to do that where you try to\u2026 I\u2019ve gotta be honest, I did that a few times in my career (hit a ball in frustration), maybe a few hundred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I\u2019m not gonna look at that and be like, \u2018Oh my god, I can\u2019t believe she hit a ball into the stands!\u2019. I can\u2019t believe how well and even tempered most of the players are and how they\u2019re able to compose themselves on the court! That\u2019s always amazed me, especially now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd when you\u2019ve got a crowd that everyone\u2019s against, and you\u2019re 18 years old trying to sort of hit the big time, that\u2019s a tough pill to swallow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former world No 4 Tim Henman also weighed in on Boisson: \u201cBoisson, she took out the third seed Jess Pegula, she had to back it up. She was against Mirra Andreeva and she did back it up. And I think that really speaks volumes to her attitude.
