{"id":593,"date":"2025-06-11T10:27:56","date_gmt":"2025-06-11T10:27:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=593"},"modified":"2025-06-11T10:27:56","modified_gmt":"2025-06-11T10:27:56","slug":"proud-corey-gauff-reveals-where-he-watched-daughter-cocos-french-open-triumph","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=593","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Proud\u2019 Corey Gauff reveals where he watched daughter Coco\u2019s French Open triumph"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Coco Gauff\u2019s dad Corey has revealed where he watched his daughter\u2019s historic French Open triumph, while also discussing how it compared to her previous Grand Slam success.<\/p>\n<p>World No 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/coco-gauff\">Gauff<\/a> sealed her first Roland Garros title with a battling 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 triumph over world No 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/aryna-sabalenka\">Aryna Sabalenka<\/a> on Saturday, three years after losing the final in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>Victory made her the first American player since Serena Williams in 2015 to win the French Open title, and just the fourth US woman this century to win multiple Grand Slam singles titles.<\/p>\n<p>She also became the youngest woman since Maria Sharapova in 2006 to win Slam titles on multiple surfaces, having previously lifted the US Open title.<\/p>\n<p>Following her triumph, Gauff ran up to her player\u2019s box where she celebrated with dad Corey and mum Candi, alongside coaches Matt Daly and JC Farrell.<\/p>\n<p>However, Corey famously does not sit in the player\u2019s box during his daughter\u2019s matches, a long-running superstition due to how nervous he can get watching her play.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <em>Tennis Channel<\/em> in the aftermath of his daughter\u2019s triumph, he has revealed where exactly he had been watching Gauff in action throughout most of the match.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/ranking-points-sabalenka-gauff-swiatek-raducanu-defending-on-grass-2025\">The ranking points Sabalenka, Gauff, Swiatek, Raducanu and top WTA stars are defending on grass<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/wta-rankings-race-points-earned-aryna-sabalenka-coco-gauff-iga-swiatek-clay-court-swing\">Aryna Sabalenka or Coco Gauff? Who earned the most points during clay-court season?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was actually supposed to be in the quiet room but then before the championship [match], you know they had like the parade and the band there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo that room was taken from me, so I kind of parked in the transportation area and I watched on my iPad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI usually turn the volume down or I\u2019ll play music while I\u2019m watching, so I don\u2019t have to hear the commentary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so when I went up, when it was match point, the first match point, I started walking towards to go to the box, and then she lost it [the point], and then lost the next one to give a break point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I turned around and sat back in my place \u2013 I\u2019m not moving until it\u2019s over!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gauff\u2019s Roland Garros victory came after her memorable triumph at the US Open back in 2023, where she again beat Sabalenka to lift the title.<\/p>\n<p>The American was just 19 years old at the time but had already suffered the disappointment of losing the 2022 French Open final, falling to Iga Swiatek.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on his daughter\u2019s two Grand Slam singles titles to date, Corey Gauff admitted that her Roland Garros title felt more like a \u201cconfirmation\u201d of the hard work she had put in.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cI was just proud of her. It definitely felt different than the US Open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe US Open felt like a tremendous burden was being lifted because she had come close so many times and she really wanted do it [win a major] in her teenage years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis time, it was more confirmation of playing, that\u2019s she\u2019s doing the right work on a daily basis, and having the right attitude.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you continue that, you continue to get better.
